Brake disks - OE or pattern?
« on: March 16, 2007, 20:01:00 »
All 4 disks on my 90 are due to be renewed in a couple of months - but the question is do i go OE or pattern - or are there better disks out there?

Cheers
Darren

Depends how much you want to spend. Are you happy with the performance with standard parts? You could go for uprated, grooved crossdrilled etc.
Personally I use standard parts but quality brand, delphi lockheed with same quality pads.

Yeah i reckon i'm happy as it is - it's not still under warranty , but the dealer prices seem a tad high and i was just wondering if there where any to avoid as i don't want to be changing them again after 20,000 miles

get lockhead or delphi P's & D's and they will last longer than most

or go a bit more expensive like Brembo P's & D's and they will be better on performance

I'm with Mike, Delphi if I can get.

But wait a mo, I think it was Craddocks had OEM ones at knockdown prices recently.

Best to avoid the unbranded plain box types, hong kong fuey parts.

Great when new don't get me wrong and indistinguishable from OEM, but once they wear you realise why they are cheap, the cast iron is nasty and unhomogenious, so they get soft spots in the surface and it's like driving a car with warped disks, except they aren't warped so you can't tell which corner is causing the juddering.

I've had them before and they don't last through one set of pads.

i'd either fit the delphi ones that Paddocks do (same as OEM) or if I was feeling flush, I'd fit EBC grooved and cross-drilled ones....

Or ask me and I'll get you a set trade   (which will work out cheaper than most)
Although.... Darren you do know your misses' can get trade as well??

In all honesty stuff from halfords isn't bad, and made by ferrodo last time I checked... and get trade discount.... but there are a few options..

Yeah we knew we could get stuff trade ( used it several times - mainly for new mudflaps as i seem to rip them off with regularity  ) - i was just wondering if there were better disks out there for the same money as OE parts.

Thanks for all the coments chaps!
