200Tdi to 300Tdi front end converson. Advice please.
« on: March 18, 2007, 12:38:56 »
Hi All. Im thinking of comverting the front end of my 200Tdi Disco to a 300Tdi, Mainly to get the bigger and better headlights.

How easy is it to do, and what bits are needed?

Any help appreciated. Thanks Wayne.

Hi,

I have been thinking about this too but as I bought brand new light when I MOT'd the truck last year have left it alone.

I have just been looking in LRW and there is an advert for a conversion kit from 200 to 300tdi @ simmonites.com for £250.
This kit says it includes everything to convert.

Anybody bought and fitted this kit??

Steve

I converted my commercial a month back, and after getting numerous templates decided to ite the bullet and buy the backing plates, drilled/ground out the old ones and welded the new ones in.

mine on the right:

the lights, grill and under light trims were about £100 all from ebay.  The problem I had was trying to accurately cut from templates, hence buying the back plates from a 300.

Once I had these it took me a couple of evenings.  drill all the spot welds out of the old panels, then get fed up with the last few and grind them off!!

Attach lights to new panel, lign it up with the bonnet etc and tack weld them in place.  Remove lights, permenantly weld backing plates to car, fit lights and grill...

I also upgraded all the wiring whilst I was at it.

The most time consuming job was cutting the grill out neatly to fit round the winch...

Sorry no pics of me doing it

i did the coversion with the simmonites kit. wasnt too hard but if i had to do it again i'd do it cheaper by buying the parts from a breakers- the only real advantage of the simmonites kit was the templates which second time round you wouldn't need!!! Ahh hindsight.
Theres no such thing as the wrong sort of mud!

Sounds like you could make a few quid selling copies of the templates

there already is a bloke on ebay selling them.

If anyone asks nicely I will try and find them and send them over
