If you cut the original socket off the wiring loom I sugggest soldered joints and heatshrink tubing for permenancy or crimp connectors for ease.
But for this job as its dry and nothing can disturb the wiring.

For waterproof boxes I use the Maplin ones with an O ring in the lid, then i fit grommets for the cable entry, i find if yo udrill a hole int he rubber just smaller than the wire it makes a good tight fit and keep water out.
