Always thought that'd be against their terms to be honest. Think of it like bidding in a proper auction house, only part way through to be told "Sorry someone's just responded to an ad we put in the paper and we've sold it that way".

Doesn't really count for anything if it's in their terms and conditions, which you'll have agreed to when you put the listing up.

I had one cancelled as it was a car I'm breaking for parts.  they don't liet othink they might miss out on something.

You have to list it now as something like, if you want any parts other than the one I'm listing, contact me to see when it will be listed.

I've been ok with that one so far, and i always reserve the right to end the auction early as it's advertised elsewhere.

that's my right, but E-Blag are fast becoming the Microslop of the auction world.

making millions of dollars isn't enough for them.

Anyway, there';s a new on line aution starting up, I'm going to try that.

I'm glad Ebay are pulling auctions with 'advertised elsewhere' in the listing, most of the time it isn't advertised elsewhere and the item is being started off at a low price with no reserve ,so what happens when you put a bid on thinking you may be up for a bargain hey presto the seller withdraws it and says this item is no longer for sale.

On the flipside, as a seller and a buyer I get thoroughly p*ss*d off with snipers.

As a seller I want bidders to express an interest early, but I end up with dozens of wathcers who all bid peanuts at the last minute.

If it was a real auction the auction wouldn't end just as it gets interesting, it would keep going 'till the bidding stopped.
As a buyer I've got sick of being outbid with 4 seconds left to go.

So I put that my item is advertised elsewhere simply because if no-one is going to express an interest then I'm not going to turn away a genuine customer just becasue he is stood in front of me with money in his hand rather than on t'internet.

sniping is a rubbish tactic anyway if you ask me.  as a buyer if you just put on what you want to spend, then its all ok. if you lose, no big deal.

want a REAL hint? if you wanna spend 300 quid... go a BIT more and put 310 on it. then when it gets to the end and someone thinks they'll snipe you by puttin on 300 quid, it just wiped them off anyway :P done it LOADS of times

All depends what your selling as to what sort of intrest your going to get, bread and butter stuff is 10 a penny on Ebay, you can guage the amount of intrest by the amount of people who ask the question'have you a buy it now price?'.

Did that with the LSE I'm breaking, mine for the princley sum of £1,021.

Quite a lot for a scrapper?

Well it's got a J.E. 4.6 long engine in it, complete with re-mapped ECU and it's only done about 20 thousand miles.

Yeah I had that as well and it really P'd me off, bet you had a free listing as well eBay just want you to spend a further £8 with them.

When I asked why mine got pulled for using a line that 95% of listings used I was told:

Quote from: "eBay"

With regard to your concern about sellers listing other items in a
similar fashion to yours, I understand your position. Let me assure you
that you are not being targeted or discriminated against, and that we
value having you as a member.

With over 1 million active listings at any given time, it is not always
feasible for us to be aware of all violating listings within the time
frame of some auctions. This is why we rely on members, such as
yourself, to report these listings and bring them to our attention. As
such, you will see items on the site currently in violation of our
listing policies. However, when we receive reports for these violations,
we fully investigate each report. Listings that are found in violation
are dealt with appropriately.

For future reference, please report any questionable listings you may be
concerned about using the following URL:

Heard someone else got pulled for saying "not landrover, suzuki, toyota" as it was classed as spamming. (doa a search for Myford lathes and see what you get)

As I said I don't think it had anything to do with eBay policy just a way of getting you to relist and pay out the £8 listing fee

It actually is their policy and always has been their policy, it means someone has reported you for it.

I think ebay are right, how are they to be taken seriously by buyers if sellers are pulling the auctions, its happened to me once when i bought a car and was going to collect it but the seller had sold to someone off ebay.

At last Ebay see sense.

The other thing that really gets my back up is when someone posts something for sale as been for a friend most of the time thats just a get out clause for selling garbage then when you contact the seller it's a case of sorry mate nothing to do with me.

That and pretending to be a private seller when you've watched em sell half a doz landys in the space of a couple of months. It's so obvious and it's like their saying HEY I think your all stupid so I'm gonna sell you this heap of junk for 3 times what it's worth. Trust me I'm a fellow landy lover.

Yup, agree totally. I also tend to find a lot of the people who add in the "listed elsewhere" clause also tend to add in the "remember your bid is legally binding" line somewhere too. So the buyer is legally bound but the seller isnt :P

The worst ones are when the seller uses a second account to win the auction, then gives you a "second chance offer". It just means that they get you for your maximum bid, rather than the lower automatic one.

Having been sniped / had an item removed when I was the leading bidder and suffered most of the other fiddles prevalent on ebay .....I'm of the mind.............if you can't beat them    join them
As for getting an auction cancelled , you've still got the option of keeping quiet and ending it when it suits you ?

someones grassed you to ebay

bit like when they kicked me off for selling a laptop and demanding payment in dollars...............well it WOULD have been me if my ISP had relocated to Italy AND my email address had changed to an Italian one AND my Delivery address was in Italy too.. spent weeks attempting to sort it out before ebay spat their dummy out and said because it was my account details (well ok Username) then it HAD to be me - and promptly stopped my account, so i lost of £150 worth of goods as the sellers decided that as i was no longer an ebay member they didnt have to send it...and also ebay sent letters telling me I hadnt paid my account - so they got sent back with a polite K'off on them...Ebay claim to offer protection from spamers and hi-jackers but in reality as long as they get paid they dont care!
lost count of the number of people complaining that ebay have said a buyer was 'suspicious' so had refunded their paypal money - after goods had been sent, so leaving genuine sellers out of pocket

thing is ebay look after the sellers not the buyers since thats where they make their money, you pay for your listing and paypal will take a chunk of your winnings too (also owned by ebay)

not saying ebay is a bad thing but there seem to be millions of users and a small fraction being affected

but one is too many
