Embarrassing...
« on: November 21, 2004, 21:23:34 »
I was driving down in Devon earlier, just north of South Brent.

Another TD5 came the other way, towing a trailer, so I just pulled slightly off the road onto a little patch of grass, to let him by.

Worrying that the Disco started going in a straight direction, even though I was steering right to drive out again...

It turns out that what looked like a little tyre rut was somewhat deeper than I thought...  Erk!  Stuck!  NS front wheel spinning, even with TC (which I presume means the O/S one was as well).

I'd bottomed out on my steering guard, which meant that although I found a big bit of wood to put under the nearside front wheel, I couldn't reverse out, even with traction control.

After about 4 minutes of trying various things, I was started to get panicky - not because I was stuck, but because I knew that a friend with a 110 200Tdi was not far behind me, and I *had* to get out before he arrived!

In the absence of many other options at this point (apart from wait for my friend - which wasn't really an option) I nudged forward instead, taking the gamble of getting more stuck, but luckily I climbed out of the rut, and drove out.

Now, I wasn't seriously stuck, but nonetheless, I have a Disco with oversize All Terrain tyres, a suspension lift, steering guard etc, so I felt a little bit of a tit, shall we say
