I think it's more to do with St George's cross, something to do witht he holy wars and fighting the Moors, Muslims to you and I.

Stupid thing is it's PC councilors sticking their oar in to try and justify their existance, most of the taxi drivers round here fly the cross irrespective of their faith.

It's about time councilors were reminded WE elect them to serve US, not the other way round.

Most around here fly the indian flag with the odd sikh flag for variety

Love the roof though. I was thinking black and white check pattern (1ft squares) for mine but not so sure with the yellow

How accurate this information is I'm not sure but ...

From: http://www.culture.gov.uk/flagflying/faqs.htm#planning

Q. Do I need planning permission?

A. You need planning permission from your local council to erect a flagpole. Once this has been obtained, no permission is necessary to fly National Flags.

Under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, flags come with the definition of "advertisement". Their display is controlled by the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) Regulations 1992.

However, under Schedule 2 of the Regulations, the national flag of any country, and this includes the Union flag, is exempt from advertisement control provided each flag is flown from a single vertical flagstaff and neither the flag nor the flagstaff display any advertisement additional to the design of the flag.

For some reason I had the idea that you can't erect a non vertical flagpole on your house without planning permission but a vertical one is OK. This suggests I'm wrong.

There have been numerous examples of local councils complaining/threatening as flying the Union Flag  can be classed as offensive to the immigrant minorities in this fair Isle ( even though 99% probably dont care less) and our do gooders bending over backwards to accomodate this non existant minority and be seen as PC....

Doesnt seem to happen in any other country...... just our OTT PC Brigade causing issues :(

It's happened up here to a few people who have been flying the White Rose flag.
It seems that the literal interpretation of the regional (ie; counties) flag is considered as advertising.
Eventually through public support, it seems that the Councils start to see sense.
