Diameter puzzle ????
« on: April 07, 2007, 11:37:37 »
Hi there  :)
I'm in need of 2 new tyre,s for my 200tdi and at the moment am running 235/85x16 looking to go wider i.e 267/75x16.
I know that there is a differnce in diamater but will this cause any problums with the transmission because of running differnt diamater tyres front and rear ???, my thinking is that the front and rear axles will be turning at differnt speeds.
Also can anyone suggest a supplyer who has a good selection of 265/75x16 mud pattern tyres (preff remolds because of price).
Thanks
  Mouse.

265/75s and 235/85s are almost exactly the same diameter, so although normally you wouldn't want to run different tyres at front and rear, in this case I don't think it'll cause you any problems.

In theory the 265/75s will have 1/3" smaller circumference (which equates to about 1 revolution/mile difference) but that could easily be absorbed by manufacturing variations.

Code: [Select]
Specification  Sidewall  Radius  Diameter  Circumference  Revs/Mile  Difference
265/75-16         7.8in  15.8in    31.6in         99.4in        637        0.0%
235/85-16         7.9in  15.9in    31.7in         99.7in        636        0.2%
