went away for the easter break and the f'ing thing overheated on the way spent most of Saturday and Sunday under the bonnet trying to sort it so in the end gave up got recovered home a day early and going into work early tommorow (on me day off!!!!) to strip the bl**dy thing!!! :twisted:  :twisted:  :evil:

Could have been worse, on Thursday I was stood on the A153 at Billinghay dealing with a 4x4 towing a caravan that had caught fire and was burning nicely!

Don't fool your self into thing its a Land rover thing.

I spent last week snowboarding, but on our way to France the alternator pully came lose on VW golf f*****g both pully and alternator. Of course it has to happen on saturday evening, so typically it would be monday before a new one could be sourced :roll: .

i think i can sympathise here

had a slight(!) leak on the transmission of my 4x4 and thought i would be ok till the weekend was over, hooked up my van and trundled off, got to milton keynes to see dad on way and the transmission was dry and very hot....

topped up and motored on to stainby, got some atf and a can of miracal leak stopper....  actually worked the level was steady all weekend site driving and then last night i was driving home and the 185 miles to get home took me 6 1/2 hours at 40 mph and 15 litres of atf....

i knew i should of either a) fixed it or b) got breakdown cover,

so she shall be in the shop for a few days...

still at least i had fun!!!!

still smiling even though i bent a few things!!!!

All stripped new water pump, all ready for a new head ordered from turner engineering gas flowed and ported etc... 8)  dumping the viscous fan fitting electric..  oh dam more money.. :cry:  :cry: (don't tell the missus the conservatory fund's gone up the swanney again!! :cry: )

Hmm catch 22 going for twin 12" fans don't care if i have to run them all the while while towing when she overheated i didn't hear the viscous cut in could be faulty??? just going for belt and braces at least i can put the temp quite low on these... :?

Oh dear mate the Bl**dy conservatory is doomed from the out set, just have to keep going away in the van in the faster cooler land rover and hope she forgets about conservatories!!! :roll:  :roll:

ah thought of all this and because i'll be running twin fans i'll be wiring it so that i can override the fans independant so that i'll run with one running all the time while towing and leave the other one to cut in when needed or be able to run with both on override...Ways and means, Ways and means.... :wink:  :wink:

i think what iain means here is "i've found these switches in my shed, so i think i'll bash them in the land rover somewhere! :D" lol

im sure you'll sort it out mate ;) could always add a couple of rear facing vents on the wings :D

Eh, then what are they doing advertising in the Caravan Club magazine, practical caracvan etc etc.

Must admit though, when I rang them for advice their guy talked me out of spending money too :? but that was to make sure I needed one before I bought it. turned out it could have been the timing was out in my case.

But surely a thermostatically controlled fan is going to work better than the viscous unit, especially when the later gets a bit tired.

Land Rovers back on the road and is as smooth as ever well chuffed 8)  8)  now running turner engineering performance head 8)  and no viscous fan 8)  All seems happy in the camp 8)  (HUGE sigh of relief!!!) unfortunatly the bank balance has took one mother of a dive :cry:  :cry:

Yep, been there! :D

I had a very hot running petrol G-wagen, took it to a well known G-wagen 'specialist' . shelled out for new rad and waterpump. still overheated, changed the viscous fan, still overheated: he diagnosed faulty headgasket :(

I had had enough by then, took it away and fitted wo leccy fans as a backup, still no good.

Gave up and booked it into local backstreet garage with instructions to change headgasket.
They rang back within a couple of hours to say it was ready and all they had done was set the timing correctly
Saved me lots of money :wink:

hasn't overheated since, just wish I had gone there straight away.....
