Depends largely on the vehicle itself.  What vehicle is it?

As far as I'm aware, you can only remove the door tops. You'll probably find that there is something in law to cover it from a safety aspect.
It probably goes on age as well, if you think of all the vintage WW2 jeeps there are on the road.

Yes, that's right.

The Land Rover 90 doesn't have removable doors, so you can't legally remove them and use the vehicle on the public rights of way as far as I'm aware.  But I think some MOD 90s have their doors removed don't they?  I do know that when it comes to the Series 3 Lightweight you can remove the doors if you fit some form of restraining chain across the gap that was once filled by the door.

I don't know what laws apply to the very early Land Rovers (Series 1) as they had removable doors too that would just pull off the hinges if you wanted.

Having done some homework on this for the SJ, the short answer is:

No.

However:
If your vehicle did not originally have doors, you still don't need them (this is how jeeps do it)

And you don't need very much door. You know, a bit of tape or a kindof u-shaped bit fulfill the legal requirements. As long as you have something to notionaly keep you in the car, you are ok.

It'll have a full external cage by then and i've already got harnesses to keep me well strapped in, might have to look into getting some half doors then

Get two piece doors.  They are far more fun than the evil windy windy doors that rot to pieces that are found on later 90 and 110 vehicles.

The rockcrawler boys use tube doors that hinge in the normal place, use the locking mechanism, but are only a tube top and middle. Should do the trick?
