why,why, some welder....not
« on: April 15, 2007, 14:27:07 »
Most of you know the 90 i have..
yesterday afternoon after work i deceided to weld the hole in the near side outrigger only to find that  the plate that was welded on last year for the mot was bogged.
it was welded to (well i would not call it weld..lol) rust and a light poke with my screwdriver and it fell off complete with weld #-o

so what was  a 30 min job ended up being a 2 hour weld.

speaking to my mate he told me it was welded by the mot place last year and he paid 90 notes for it .
Why do folks do this .. quick money maker i think to rob the general public.

Rant over

Ahh thats what you call chasing the weld

Looks a small job until you clean it up and try to find enough metal to latch onto

Rear cross members on series are famous for that, on my third at the mo

It's becasue so-called "proffesionals" will do whatever is quickest and easiest then charge you a fortune.  PLus they don't want the work to last forever, they want you to come back.

Years ago a mate had a Spitfire, one side had 5 sill panels on it, the other side had 7.

Went a hole lot faster once it was fixed.

I used to restore minis and export them to the USA. The bodges I used to find on them. "Cover Sills" were my bugbear. The times the previous owner would say "its got new sills I just had them put on" then I would count the seams on the sill and there was always more than the 2 they were supposed to have. I did have on car that had 5 a side!
