slight lack of drive
« on: April 23, 2007, 18:36:08 »
hi,
ive lost drive in my 200 tdi disco,
however if i put it in diff lock it goes,
my thoughts are the are that the cv joints are [!Expletive Deleted!] as theyve been clicking for a while. ive put it in gear got out loooked underneath and the front prop is spinning ,this is without diff lock. this is what makes me think its in the front end? am i right in saying that.
so anyway i jacked it up took the wheel off and took the little shaft out from there everything looks ok on both sides. if i spin the passenger side wheel i think i can hear it turning the diff but it doesnt turn the prop.
i also tried the driver side but couldnt hear anything like the diff moving only perhaps a slight possible crunching?
any ideas what it could be or how i can go about identifying what has broken .
many thank in advance matt ....
Matt.

Think it'll be your diff or the half shafts or the CV's...

If your not getting ineresting noises coming from your diff... I'd suspect the half shafts as teh CV's I'd expect to make some noise.

Check with someone whose bound to know more than me though!

drain oil off, if theres metal in the oil its the diff
if not its a shaft or cv
but either way the shafts have got to come out if it is the diff,
so you might aswel wip both shafts and cv's out
