OK, now I know that Land Rovers are not rocket ships, but the 110 seems to be seriously lacking in top speed. Acceleration up to 50mph is fine, but by then I'm in 4th or even 5th gear, if I press on a little to 70mph, it feels (and sounds) like I need another couple of gears.
To the best of my knowledge, the truck is a standard Td5 110, 'heavy duty' variant, running BFG MT 265/75/16's. The MT's account for some of the noise, but at 65-70mph the poor engine seems to be screaming its nuts off.
I'm guessing that a different transfer box might help things along, or maybe an overdrive - the latter I seem to recall is around a grand, whereas I may be able to lay my hands on a Disco transfer box for not many beer tokens. Would replacing the T-box with one from a Disco alter the final gearing ?
It's also been suggested to me, that as the truck is a HD variant, the diffs may be different ratios - is this possible ?, and how would I confirm ?
Ta,
Jim
