hi fitted a second hand prop shaft in very good condition to my 200tdi defender 90 had probs with vibration from day one it has got worse so i climbed under to have a look both ujs are sound but are very hot to the touch also the propshaft is hot within 6 inches of ujs. rear prop shaft is fine eny ideas why this should happen would be appreciated ...Iain

Have they been greased? how close is the exhuast? is the heat transfering from the gearbox?

hi they have been greased and are in good condition the transfer box and front diff are cool to touch it is just the ujs and 6inch of prop shaft ajoining it is almost to hot to touch after only 5 miles thanks for the reply Iain

id check the grease again... sounds like theres something binding somewhere? is the prop itself greased?

give it a crack, cant be anythin too serious i wouldnt think... worst case would be heat from the transfer box, but obviously if thats the case you'll only have heat at one end? god knows... see what you find :)

has the landy got a lift ?
if it has, the u'js will be close to there max operatinng angle which wil cause excessive heat build up,

also have you checked any of the radius arm bush's ect to make sure the axle isnt floating around (up/down) which will be changing the pinion angle, which is just like lifting the landy, makes the u/j's work at funny angles

yes the landy has a 2 inch lift and i think it is well due new bushes will look into this, im just amazed that the ujs get almost to hot to touch after only 4 or 5 miles i appreciate your help and will climb under over the weekend and have a good look around ,cheers Iain

had a look under the old girl today bushes that conect radius arms to front axle are well worn this would make sense as prob has got gradualy worse over months thinking about geting it polybushed any one got an idea to how much this should cost

dont, fit std lr bushes....mine just eats genuine polybushes, so gone back to std bushes, yes they a pig to fit....but ive got a press so nerrrr :lol: :lol:
so far aint had to replace a bush in 3 months, just 2 cv's and another front prop today :roll:

i have heard that before, cant remember where think ill stick with gen land rover bushes wont be fitting them my self so no probs there thanks for your help its much apreciated will let you know how i get on cheers Iain

If you have a two inch lift please expect prop shaft problems. Some do some don't.

As for fitting suspension bushes. There's nothing difficult about doing that. We I've never had any problems and a lot of you seem to have access to better tools than me :roll:
All I use is a hacksaw. A drift. A hammer. A lenght of screwd rod. What more is needed ?

can be done if you have a big vice aswel, but how i used to do them is cut the bush then hammer it out

ino some one on here who even changed a rear a-frame ball joint with a sledge hammer :shock: no names mentioned....adam (disco-v8) :lol: :lol:

the rav is going real good its great fun to drive, i dont think i will take it off road though, will stick to the 90 its a case of horses for courses. to many bits hanging down on the rav, think i could do a lot of damage

have removed front prop and replaced a slightly worn uj greased it up had new bushes fitted to front radius arms and problem is solved so thanks for the input guys :D :D :D

I have a 2 inch lift on my Tango. Now started going through props like the wind until I put longer ones on!!!! I have a rear on the front and a heavier prop something like a TD5 on the rear have not had problems since. Because the length has been changed.

I have been told the best way to sort the problem out is to get different radius arms fitted to compensate for the lift. This does lift the truck slighty higher aswell but they are not cheap have been told about Ã‚Â£300
