HELP!!!! Can anyone near Glasgow help Skibum???? Disco woes!

I've just had a call from Skibum346 (Frank)...he was on his way up to Glasgow in his Disco 300Tdi and the alternator has gone up in flames and taken some of the wiring with it.  He's 60 miles south of Glasgow (a long way from home in Rugby) waiting for the AA truck that will take him the rest of the way.

He's asked me to post on here and see if there is anyone here who might be able to give him a hand over the weekend, it will need a bit of wiring doing!  If I was nearer I'd help myself, but I am leaving the Midlands at 5am tomorrow bound for Weymouth...not much use!

come on guys surely there must be somebody local that could give him a hand or even take a quick look he is always good for a laugh i bet he is even wearing his kilt  :shock:

A lot of people who live in that area won't even be online this weekend as it is the Drumclog event........ which is just up the road from Glasgow :roll:

Just spoke to him he is sorted now. New alternator and belt fitted. He got a nice man to come out to him and it was sorted in 20 mins so hes back on the road :D  and smiling again

A quick note of thanks now I'm home...

As Tomo said... everything is fixed... shiny new lucas alternator from their shop in Glasgow (cheap...? I think not!) along with a fan belt. Found a mobile mechanic in East Kilbride who had the job done in less than 40 minutes...   :shock:  I'll put his details in the garage & services section.

It seems the bearing on the laternator failed but in the process generated lots of heat. When the fan belt snapped, pulling over allowed the heat to be the last part of the fire triangle and up it went!

The weekend before I'd been rooting arounf the garage and come across a fire sxtinguisher, bought on a whim one day but never fitted. I fitted it to mine and said to SWMBO... must get one for yours... prophetic words!

As it happens... we always carry 5 litres of water for thje car and some for drinking... so... on it went... (I know those of you experienced in the use of fire fighting equipment will jump up and down at the use of water on an electrical fire... trust me... it was the only option!).

When the Glasgow crowd get back form Drumclog and see this post... I'm sure you would have all helped if your were around so thanks and I hope the Clog went well!

Right... off to Halfords now for a fire extinguisher!
