DIFF PANS/AXLES????
« on: April 29, 2007, 20:59:00 »
Hello MC'ers,

I'm in a bit of a quandry on how to go about resolving an oil leak on my RRC.

Both my diffs are leaking, the rear is worse than the front,
both pans have been wacked about in previous ownership and on a recent trip to France the drips got a lot worse.
It's also making a bit of a mess outside the house!

Which is the best way to go about resolving the issue?
The pans are past saving and been gobbed up a few times.

PLAN A.........Two news pans can be bought and welded on by some one who can weld skillfully enough so that there are no leaks.
PLAN B.........I could buy two new complete axle tubes and swap them out,
(a big job to do on my front drive)
PLAN C.........Buy two recon or second hand axles, my main problem here is that the 1994 RRC 300 Tdi has ABS etc. and there is probably not a lot of these axles floating around.
Would 300 Tdi Disco axles fit?
Are 300 Tdi Disco axles the same?

Any experience with this problem anyone?

Cheers..........................

I'd run with plan A. if i was you i'd buy the HD pans and get them welded on, therefor you do not need to buy diff gaurds so that also saves a few quid in the long run.

PLan C, the Disco is just a RR in drag anyway, the same axles etc only the ABS master cylinder/booster was different (Disco unit is cheaper  ).
