300-200tdi lights. won some clusters now :-)
« on: May 07, 2007, 21:37:50 »
Well. I have just won 2 light clusters off ebay for £20 inc postage etc. Just got to wait for them to arrive now!!

Is there anything I should know about when I come to wire the 200 ones in? Are all the connections the same etc etc? is it as simple as take old cluster out, pull wires off lights in bumper, feed them up to cluster hole, plug them all in, screw new cluster on and black tape over old light lenses in bumper?

I seriously hope so!!!

Cant remember what i did going the other way, but the connecing pins on the plugs can be withdrawn so some circuit testing and re-arranging the ends will help you match them up

Personally I would keep the bumper set and just run an extra wire to the new ones for the circuits that wern't there.

is £20 good for a pair of lights though? Im thinking a fiver for postage and £7 for each cluster.

I won them off a guy who breaks discos and you just pm him with what you want andhe gives you a price.

I did pm a chap breaking his own disco and quoted me £45 for the 2 clusters inc P&P. I think he is on another planet!!

Was that Vince in Cardiff you PM'd then  :?:

My dad has a 300tdi with indicators in the rear bumper but not the body lights. He has the cluster lens, actual cluster itself and also the bulb holders. There is a multi connector on the back. If he unplugs the old one and plugs the new one in will he have 4 indicators at the back like the N reg > Disco's or will he still need to run a wire from bumper to body :?:

I would imagine the bumper lights are fed from the main loom which is down the o/s/r corner

So a case of tapping into the correct feed down for the indicator and fog (if you are moving them as well)

I'm going to move all mine as if I wire in 2 more indicators it's going to make the trailer light on the dash flash when Im not towing anything. I have enough lights flashing as it is!!!

No, but it almost as simple. I've just fitted 200 lights to my 300 as i've binned the bumper. You need to wire the positive brake and indicator wires (from the bumper) into the existing white block conector. The earth wires can be traced back to where they are spliced into the loom and cut as the 200 clusters are earthed.
I used standard female blade conectors (blue i think) and squeezed them sligtly so that they would slot into the existing white block connector. (The white block connector opens at the side so you can fit the conectors in the vacant slots) I'm sure you could get the propper female blade conectors but i just used what i had lying about.
Hope this makes sense. G

Took me about an hour in the dark to do Tim's
You can plug the 200 ones into the 300 loom but the extra lights don't work straight away, though the correct bulbs are there already.

IIRC it was the side lilghts and indicators I had to join (I used Scotchlocks  ) with short flying leads from the loom to the 'new' lights, then I dismantled the multi plug on the back of the lights, bent the appropriate strips out and reassembled the plug.  The strips for side and indiucators were then connected with female blade terminals.
The worst part is getting the rubber trim back in properly.

I think you are right come to think of it. I'd previously said brake and indicator. I just used the existing leads from behind the bumper, just shortened them and stuck a blade connector on the end so they would plug unto the back of the cluster (via the existing block conector). Kept everything neat and binned any redundant wires.
