changing transferbox in a 200tdi 110 to a 1.22:1.
« on: May 08, 2007, 22:52:18 »
I have recently had a few new mods done to my 200tdi 110 and pulls like a train. but i have recently found  my self doing more motorway driving so thort would be a good idea to slap in a 1.22:1 transferbox.

firstly will this hinder my low ratio or towing ability that much and where would the best place to find a transferbox from, an old disco?

Low range will be unchanged....

Towing abilty... hrm, depends what you tow.  Not hard to learn to shift from low to high on the move though!!

Depends if you want a new or second hand transfer box??
Blantent plug, but if you want a second hand one, I've got one going spare out of my brothers Disco (been stripped for bits due to rust!!)

what size tyres you running ?
anything over 31 inch and it isnt gonna like hills on motorways, youll find that you'll be dropping down a gear
pull offs will be abit harder but 2BH its nuffing that noticable

Yup!  you've got the same as me and I get on fine with the 1:2 box... you wont notice much...4th needs to be used to the end though..as the motor dont have quite enough to get over the flat spot at the start of 5th

you will also have to make a bracket 4 the handbrake as i remember. i have done the opposite to you ans put a 1.4 ratio in my disco from a defender and it was different but easy enough to do. i therefore also have a dtransfer box sitting around if you are interested?
if it aint broke....   brake it!!!

You could also put a Borg-Warner in there if you can find a good one.

Thing is I've got 235/85s on Blue now and I find it a bit gutless, especially towing.  Not helped by my other RRC being so damn fast though
