90/110 are 5.5", 130 are 6.5"......  235/85 aren't reccomended on 5.5" rims but plenty do it anyway.  I used to but thought they looked pinched.

My90 with the 5.5" and 235's.

Also Wolf rims are 6.5 inch wide so suitable, otherwise Disco steels 7 inch or after market wheels in a variety of widths.

Minimum width recommended for 235/85 is 6.5 inch.

For a standard rim you can put 7.50R x 16 tyres as these are listed alternatives, rolling radius is almost the same just slightly narrower.

Fortunately the last alloys i had were fitted with locking nuts, unfortunately they were stolen with the rest of the Land Rover.

Locking nuts are only partly effective, with the ready availability of the 'locking nut remover' packs - what decently equipped burglar would be without?

begs the question - why the heck did land rover put 5.5" rims on vehicles that really want 235 tyres as standard (90/110) but 7" rims on a vehicle that was supplied with 205 tyres as standard (discovery)??

suits me though - I'm putting disco steel rims with 235 tyres on my 90 - best of both worlds! check the metal thickness on those disco rims - beastie!!

Because standard fitment for the 110 was either 205x16 or 7.50x16, not 235/85x16. Standard sizes on Discos and Rangies were wider.

Still doesn't answer the question of why they didn't supply the Defender with wider steels as standard though - I presume it's historical.

If you want chunky rims try the Wolf or D2 steels - that's thick metal! However the Disco steels cost a pitance in comparison!

Cheers

I don't think you can beat a nice set of black wolf rims!

Run 265's on mine and they look fine, no bulging etc.
