To save me the aggro from our local 'waste facility', I ended up getting a letter from the facility manager stating that as long I was carrying household waste I was entitled to use the place. Mine has a height barrier on that people carriers can't get under and I have to buzz to get in.

So, try writing a snotty email to the facility management and see where it leads.

As has been said, considering most scam tradesman use estate cars and the like, it seems daft picking on Landy owners.

Cheers

It's the same up here - a station wagon is fine but if you dont have side windows, ie a hard top or pick up Landy then you are stuffed
If I have rubbish to dump I cant even get in with my trailer hooked up to the 110 pick up - I've got to tow the stuff there with the rangie
It's stupid - after all its the same rubbish !

There's a 6' height restriction at our local tip.  So you can take in an escort van full of commercial waste instead of paying at the weighbridge, but I can't take in a Disco full of garden waste.

The one time I've been there since I got the Disco, I was even loaned a nice flourescent jacket to wear while emptying it in the commercial bit free of charge.  I did have to prove I lived in the borough, though - fortunately I had my driving licence with me.

My weekly contribution to the environment was a one mile round trip to the bottle bank because our          council are too lazy to take glass bottles and random types of plastic in the recycling (I can recycle milk cartons, but not the tops, and I can't recycle the yoghurt pots - work that one out).

You are legally entitled to go in with the Land Rover to dispose of your waste as normal, permitting the waste is not commercially related.  If they don't let you in, then you have full right to complain.

Our local tip have a height barrier.  There is a bloke that stands by it all day opening it for people in land rovers and larger people carriers.  He doesnt ask questions, just opens the barrier and waves.

Damn good use of our council tax eh :(. God only knows why they dont just leave the damn thing open!

Iv'e had trouble at tips like this over a old washing machine.I own a new transit and it has a low floor so i put the washing machine in it so not to knacker my back up to much. When i got to the tip they informed me that i couldnt tip has i was in a trade motor.I told them why i'd used the transit but this jump up yellow jacket wearing moron dug his heels in and would let me tip. So off home i went load it on to the 110 csw and drove back to the tip a which point its now very busy and theres not much room to turn only to be told that no commercial motors are allowed on site so back home i went and rang the council to ask them what to do and they said take it to the tip [told them what had happened],they then said they would pick it up instead next time theres a white goods lorry in the area.
Two weeks passed as it sat out side on my drive then one sat nite it was nicked then on the monday the council rang me to say they would pick it up.

My FIL works on a Tip and takes rubbish all day

seriously though, they are people doing jobs, they don't make the Policy, they just try and do their job. If you have a beef take it to the council. Simple as... Council are there to serve the community.

Most Councils have different rules, barriers etc etc. We can expect it to get worse as rubbish is the latest TAX along with owt Green.

A friend of mine, not on the forum, has a lightweight (with 90 chassis cut down), anyway he was driving into a multistory car park in swansea, and it had one of those hight restricotrs. can't remember the size it restricted however, anyway, he forgot to remove his roofrack the night before, and plowed into this one ripping one side from the ground. Cant remember if he had to pay damages, but the landie survived, the rack has a small dent on one side.

Just thought id mention it

Our local one has the barrier, I think it's set at 2 metres??
The Discovery went under it easily, the 110 doesn't, so they have to open it up.

To top it all I went one Saturday & was refused entry, as the chap said they don't open it on a weekend
How daft is that?
If I'd been feeling combative, I might have parked in the gateway & asked for management to be called in, & let the queue keep building up behind me

(no wonder fly-tipping is on the increase in the area, Leeds Council is far more enlightened - they take everything with no limits on private dumping)

Wakefield MDC Waste Service

They also limit trailers to 6' x 4' (unless it's hired & you've got the agreement with you)
A guy who used to work there even went as far as measuring the trailers & was known to turn people away!!!
My Ifor-Williams was 6'6" long, so you can imagine the scenes I had   (it was their smallest model at the time, I went as far as taking a brochure with me showing the dimensions)

Quote from the 'Permit page
'If you drive a van, pick up or trailer (trailers above 6ft x 4ft) you must obtain a commercial permit before visiting your local HWRC.
These permits allow you to visit the HWRC up to 12 times each year.

All centres except the Wakefield HWRC have height barriers, site attendants are permitted to open these barriers every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, as long as you have the correct permit'

So it appears that I can't go to the tip on Monday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday.

It's a pity as their biggest sites entrance is only a mile away, where we lived before it was easier to go to the Temple Newsham site (Leeds Council)

They do their jobs and a bit more than that.  You may find the odd item you thought was worthless ends up suddenly going on sale at a place near you. *hint hint*
