90 Alternator
« on: May 20, 2007, 00:50:24 »
I had a problem with my alternator this week so I took it to bits. Basically it wasn't charging and the ignition light wasn't lighting when the engine was not going.
The Landrover workshop manual loosely points to the 6 diodes on the rectifier(which all checked out OK eventually), but nowhere does it show you how its wired up internally(so I had to work that out).
I managed to get it working just by giving it a good clean and lubricating everything.
What I want to know is; the manual says the ignition light is wired in series with one of the fields. Which one? Stator or Rotor? (could be either from what I worked out)
Also; I can't figure out how the system puts the ignition light on and off. Anybody have any experience in this area?
If theres a harder way to do it I`ll find it!!
