Anyone in Hants good with welding.

Need a patch welding on the car, have a quote from a garage at £40 for a patch on uppr sill/inner wing, is this good. Can anyone do it cheaper?

Having seen welded garage patches on a car you might not get it cheaper but you'd certainly get it done better

I'll Ask Mr Phill first seeing as he's about 2 mins from where the car is sat. Otherwise I have to move an untaxed car a long way without a trailer. Being an Auto I cant tow the thing either.

I know what you mean about Garage Patches too.

Hi there

Some garages will weld a patch over the rusty hole.

That's a waste of time, rule of thumb ask if they will cut out the rusty hole.

You will be able to examine it afterwards they should be able to let in a piece of steel and finish it off.

I charge £3.00s per inch. if it's done properly they shouldn't leave an ugly patch and it will be there for ever.

If it's a cheep patch youll be chasing it every year for it's MOT.

So long as the art is a safe one who cares.

For me putting skin sills over old rotten ones is criminal scrap the bloody things or do it right.

If the sills rotten so is the inner box and your crash dummy ain't going to survive.

Over heads don't mean a thing to the loved ones when the kids are dead.

The damage has already has marinating in rust eater so I can see how much needs to come out, if I can get it out it'll be treated with inhibitors etc to stop it going worse. Given its a galvo body there must have been a defect there for it to go the way it has.

If you can get your hands on  it "not litteraly it hurts" get some phosphoric acid, comes in gallon containers.

I treated a piece of bare metal years ago half with phos and left it to the elements over winter the half with the phos was still as new the rest rusted to bits.

I use it for all my projects now. When doing bare body rebuilds once the shells sand blasted I spray it with Phos and leave it to dry before spraying with rust inhibiting etch primer.  


I wouldn't recommend spraying it unless youv'e got a proper sterile air fed mask etc.

Just brush it on.
