Good question, Ive never seen one of the damned things run straight even after a light rain shower!

Has anyone built one that can really run immersed in water?
Go on....cut me in half........it says SUZUKI all the way thru the middle!!

Tigger could for one,  no distributor .. :)

All you need is to spend some time and care making sure the dizzy cap doesn't let water in and you stand a chance :)

and, of course, do something about the holes in the dizzy itself.

I haven't bothered with a snorkel.... too much trouble plumbing it in anyway   Just have to avoid water more than 3 feet deep!

We have a 'snorkal' to fit onto sally the camper but the idea is for it be more of a 'raised air intake'.

She has a RR 3.5efi fitted and the air intake is currently behind the engine and she gets lots of dust and crud in it as well as hot air from the engine.

Thoughts are that taking the air from higher up it will be cooler and cleaner (especialy with the pre cleaner we have to put on it)

I have a snorkle on my disco but It is not there to allow me to drive through deep water, it is there to safeguard the engine and avoid destroying it by sucking up a load of water.
  It does look good too!

Surely if you didn't traverse "deep" water you wouldn't need a snorkle ?

I'll second that, my snorkel is there as a precaution, not there because I need it. A few times we've been out and water is deeper than expected, without the snorkel I would have had to rebuild the engine at least once by now.

Somehow I think the Army would dispute that when they used the 10FC in amphiibious trials.
The 'plimsoll line' was half-way up the windscreen, & that was in the sea, not a wading tank!!!

Yes, but it was also done during exercises & therefore accepted practice

What't the beef about V8's for ?
Is this another diesel Landy owner showing his inferiority complex about his underpowered ickle engine ?
I would like to know the % of diesel owners with snorkels that go wading with them - not as high as you would like to think

Right - that's my tuppence worth - off out to listen to my lovely V8 burbling - and no it doesn't have a snorkel

I have a V8 & diesels & have no problem with either in deep water.  I do take time to waterproof the V8 well with silicone grease but it never misses a beat under water.  8)
Did everyone see that?  Because I will NOT be doing it again!

the 24v electrics fitted to the 101 are actually pretty tolerant of water, the dizzy iirc is sealed and the ht leads are fully screened with a screw fitting on to the plugs and dizzy cap.
