« on: May 29, 2007, 16:04:19 »
hi people.iv been offroading at runhall in nofolk this weekend and managed to put my 90 in a huge ditch in which ive damaged the wings, bonnet, radiator and the damn bulkhead.
rather than replace the damaged pieces im thinking of chopping down the chassis and putting a vitara body on.
has any body seen or done this themselves??any information would be a great help
thanks for looking,lawrence[/img]

I'd love to see a photo of it in the ditch but would hate to see a Defender with a Vitara body on it!  I'd just repair it as oppose to open the door to a whole world of new issues!

Err, Vits Rot, rapidly.

I know this, I own one :) Most of whats good about the vit comes from it being small, light and in some respects a bit more powerful than it needs to be. You wont get ANY of this is you bold the vit body to a LR chassis.

You'll probobly end up with a but ugly bodge that rots and doesnt go any better and will be just a chassis inside a few years.

Off the top of my head, all the outriggers are in the wrong place. You'll need a mahoozive body lift to get all the gear under the floor pan. i'm sure a 90 is a lot wider too. Vits engine bay is only tiddly so you might have issues there. oh and you'll need to rewire the whole lot, the Vit and LRs are wired totally differently, so rewire engine and all electrics to match the Vit (bad idea) or start over.

It'd be an interesting project IF you happened to have a nadgered Vit AND Nadgered Landy and lots of time. In comparison a new 90 body will just drop on.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

which ditch did you put it in??
the 1 near the woods is quite tricky, and i managed to flaten my Paj fuel tank.
There are only 2 more i can think of which are damaging, but you do get the best pics in those!

Have you a pic of said ditch??

sunny old cromer mate,i doubt il be doing much with the 90 now as its got a crease on each side of the chassis near where the rear arms that hold the axle on attatch.im devastated!!
i imagine il break her and get a newer beast as iv a whiplash claim in progress from when an 87 year old jumped out of a junction in a clio and into my disco with winch and bumper.bloody pensioners!
