How hard is it to fit ?
« on: May 30, 2007, 16:05:49 »
Right I am getting more and more peeved at the service I am geting from the dealership I bought my TD5 from. The after sales chap is no longer returning my calls as I annoyed him last week because they had my car 2 weeks and so I thought a phone call every day after that time was in order to try and speed them up a bit.

They have done a total bodge up of my sunroof and it still leaks. I am now getting to the point where I am thinking if you want a job doing properly then best do it myself. The part is going to cost me £239 +vat. When a spoke to a salesman at the dealers he said we are not paying for that. So obviously all I can expect from them is another mastic nightmare, so how difficult is it goingt o be for me to fit the new part myself. Basically its the bottom half of an electric sunroof ?. The bit with all the drainage points and the tracks etc.

Given all the problems you've had, have you considered seeing if you can return it?  It sounds like they might have sold you a bit of a lemon.  Maybe CAB or Trading Standards websites would be a good place to start, or call them.

The day after I bought my P38a (with no warranty) the flywheel disintegrated & the whole thing came to a shuddering halt.  The independent garage I'd bought it off paid for it to be repaired fully at a main dealer.  I don't think they'd have done that if they hadn't thought they had some obligation not to sell me a crock o' the proverbial.

Have you tried to call LR customer service and report the incident to them. The number is ain book and they might sort. Had issue with the ACE ecu on mine and in the end got a call from LR and they replaced it at an independent dealer of my choice

The dealer isn't a Landrover dealer. To be fair they have spent alot of money on it, but only putting right problems I identified prior to purchase and they agreed to sort out. They seem to want to bodge certain jobs. They promised to sort out one or two small oil leaks prior to me taking delivery and they failed to do it. I took it back and the attitude from the salesman was along the lines of we always try and get away with just  tightening a few bolts first before doing a proper job on it.

I spoke to him this morning and they have said they will sort it, but can't do it for a few weeks. I pointed out the weather we're having and said I think the headlining will be ruined by then and that will cost you £300 to replace, he took offence to that an told me they had spent to much on the vehicle as it was. I pointed out that all that was agreed prior to purchase and that this leak was although not evident must have been present at the time of sale as I only had it 2 days before it started and those were nice dry days.

I seem to be getting nowhere with them now. Its like they've decided they don't want to know now. I don't want to return the car as it is the right vehicle for me and has previously been well looked after. I am just thinking it might just be easier to sort it out myself and have done with it. At least I know its done then.

Write to them stating exactly what it is you require them to do and at the bottom of the letter inform them you have sent a copy to Trading standards and a solicitor ask for any further replies to be carried out in writing via Trading Standards. Make sure you do send the 2nd and 3rd letters and await their reply

If the car is on finance/hp try this it helped me a lot, and i got rid of the car and my deposit back, after i had it a month

it was a sierra 4x4 2.9i, the dealer wouldnt repair the car as it was smoking really bad, i rang the finance company direct and told them he'd sold me a pig in a poke and told him id gone to two other garages which i did and they confirmed the the situation, and i was refusing to pay the hp and it would be my pleasure to bring it up in court,

two days later the finance company told me to return the car, and the dealer would refund my deposit,

im talking 12 years ago, sure you have rights somewhere along the line

No sorry paid cash. I have checked my rights and basically I am entitled to repairs for any faults that occur within the first 6 months as having paid for a road worth vehvile which is fit for use, I can expect to have at least that long before having to pay for repairs. I found that on the CAB web site under consumer law, second hand car sales. It also says if proven that a fault existed at the time of sale you can claim for repairs up to 6 years after purchase. That seems a little extreme to me. But basically I can request a repair and compensation for phone calls, fuel to the garage etc.. Not really bothered about the other bits just want a proper repair, but I can't get the chap I need to speak to about it to talk to me.

I am going to try asking to speak to the boss tomorrow and If he is unavailable the get his name and address for a letter. Might even see how much a solicitors letter will cost.

Get an AA report on the problem and a one line letter stating fix it or else this will be handed over to trading standards and your solicitor .And if they don't sort it, then follow through with the threat you are the customer and you have rights .
