New Jeep Patriot
« on: June 02, 2007, 19:47:49 »
I have just got home from a Jeep Trial at Parkwood Offroad Centre,Tong.
A brilliant couple of hours with no hard sell, just a play day.
The new GC went very very well on the offroad course... some very good holes, ruts, wading, climbs & descents never phased it at all.

The new softroader, the Jeep Patriot, was there too, more for the " I live down a dusty lane" type than an offroader. It's  either a 2 litre oilburner or 2.4 petrol depending what you prefer.. I prefer to not bother at all.

My God it's an ugly thing !

You thought the Compass was ugly ? Wait till you see this !
To me they both look like they belong on a roundabout at a fair !
What do you think ? Look at the look on the lad's face in the 2nd pic... says it all eh ?

I reckon the Jeep Commander is worse.  I think they made it out of Meccano.

But at least the Commander is a GC with a different shell on.... but slightly longer and wider to get the 3rd row of seats in ... i.e. it will offroad !! A bit too square for me though.

I did ask about those horrible wheel arch extensions with the bolts r us fixings... . no reply !

For anyone with loads of dosh, if you don't like the Cherokee's present shape ( too rounded off ? ) there's a new square shaped un coming out soon ........ maybe the present one will be a bargain later this yr before the new un is launched ( remember Freelander ? )

Problem with that Patriot is it's too short - unless everyone in those pics is gigantic

My KJ is taller than me, and that's only just a proper jeep  8)

The Patriot and the Compass are both from the mickey mouse world of a designer's vision of what we in the UK require to combat the anti V8 gas guzzling 4x4 brigade.... it's an alternative to the 3.0 litre oil burner they seem to have adopted for the full sized proper Jeeps.

I asked why they didn't simply keep V8s and convert it to LPG ... in fact any petrol engines could be changed to dual fuel at very little cost straight from the factory.... seems they aren't interested, and their excuse is to waffle about different markets demanding different engine emmisions etc.

Personally I won't be buying any new cars in the foreseeable, but the techie guy I was speaking to admitted LPG was the way to go especially om a vehicle that was out of factory warranty...  ( "errr don't quote me" he said  ... ooops ! )

IMHO I reckon the oil companies and the govt. wouldn't like them moving away from what they do now...

We have just been on a cruise in the med, (very nice)-on the docks at Livorno in Italy we saw loads of new Wranglers both short and LWB.

They looked very nice-just on the other side of the fence from our coach,
Taller and wider. SWMBO said the LWB looked like a baby Hummvee!

Looking forward to seeing them here as we might consider a diesel.

Well I like it, looks more like a modernised Cherokee than the KJ does. Going on price its a better bet than the freelander which it is aimed at, priced on a par with the 5 door GV and about £5k cheeper than a freebee

hey, where do I vote?

I will try  to post again ....... just a red cross showing at the mo,dunno why.
They are no contest to the freelander ....... seem to me to be nearer to the subaru market and failed badly.. a psuedo 4x4 ...  ok on a lane to the house but not a proper 4x4 ...... may be ok on a wet slippy road but that's all
