Head lining removal
« on: June 03, 2007, 15:34:18 »
To save me some money on labour I am going to remove the headlining from my TD5 before it goes in for the sunroof repair. I have taken it partially off upto now. Enough so that I could make a temp repair etc... Up until now I have been pulling the lining out of the top pillar furniture, but to remove the whole thing I am going to have to remove the pillar furniture as well. I have tried all ways to get the furniture off. Its obviously fixed somehow from behind with an invisable clip or something. Does anyone know how you get them off. Its the plastic coverings on the A and B upright pillars, where the windscreen and seat belts are. I have feeling that I need to slide the covers up or down but there doesn't seem to be any movement.

On a 300tdi

If its the front pillars by the windscreen then there are 3 clips which give way when you pull them, its better with a long screwdriver for leverage, take car as they break easy.
For the seatbelt mountings then leave them in place. Front sunvisors have to come out, then the front map reading panel. This is held in with lots of screws and the light, sunroof leckies and ultrasonic sensors are held in with multiplugs which you need to pull apart.
All grab handles need to come out and also the rear alpine light surrounds, the seatbelt bolt is 17mm.
If you do it this way then the headlining will be held up via the interior mirror, seatbelt mountings and the lip at the rear of the tailgate.

Just lift up and flex and out rememberingto disconect the rear interior light, oh yeah, put the rear seats down when removing as it helps

If you break the rear interior light, they are hard to source but if you go on Ebay, the interior light from a Rover 800 is the same

which ones the B pillar

If its the alpine light surround then these are longer plastic nail type that are grooved so when you push it in it clicks, like a ratchet, same as the door card clips.

If its the windscreen pillar then these are different, simular to a ball and socket although they're more squarish and snap easily   Arildite em if they do go or replace them :P

If its the same as a 300tdi then to remove the alpine light surround, not only do you need to remove the 17mm seatbelt socket but also you need to remove the rear speaker surround as this holds the alpine light surround in place.

B pillar = seat belt pillar (next to driver)
c pillar = seat belt pillar just behind rear seat paggengers  and so on
