fan belt / alternator belt
« on: June 03, 2007, 21:11:00 »
Do you know the noise it makes when you run over something and it goes a round the wheel arch :?:
Well I had that noise earlier today and when I was stationary it didn't go away. Popped the bonnet and saw that the fan belt had started to thread itself away and it was whipping the bonnet and everything else in its way, not good, got a lovely line now in the soundproofing :!:
Cut the loose bit with scissors and carried on but it got worse, had to limp it back home as no spare belt and also Halfrauds don't keep them in stock, special order only, takes 5 days to get there and also makes me £23 lighter :shock:
I was about 20 miles from home when it happened, made me late for the local meet  :evil:

So the question is, is this the one I need, its a 300tdi non abs, non air con model, N reg:

The link doesn't work, you need to copy and paste the whole lot into your web browser :roll:

She's parked up outside the house now with only half a fan belt on it.

It should be based on the width of the belt - measure the grooved section of the top pulley and get the one that matches that.............
Son, life has a habit of kicking you in the ass and i only have vague recollections of when it wasn't kickin mine!

Gareth,
the pic was at a Wye and Welsh LRC Tyro event.
If you look at your VIN number you will see it starts of along the lines of SAL = Land Rover
LJ=Disco
G= 100" Wheel base
M= 5 door
F3 or something for 300Tdi
then two letters and six digits.  The two letters indicate the model year and the six digits are your unique number
MA=1995
TA=1996
VA=1997
Don't forget the model year usually starts before the calendar year.  My car is MA but was registered in Sep 94

Bit of a late response I know, but just found this whilst browsing through. My aux belt was on it's way out. The garage I use did it for me the following day, they got the belt (from the local Main Stealers :(, was waiting for a big bill when I saw the parts invoice in their office with the LR headed paper!), fitted it, and charged me a tenner altogether! Wasn't worth me having a go at doing it myself. Having said that, they've had plenty of money off me recently ;)
