Hey there,
I have just bought a Landrover Series 3 hybrid with a Range Rover 1985 3.5 V8, chassis and axles (hope im posting my problem in the right section!). Anyway it was running all perfectly until one day i was pulling away from home and it just died out. It just wouldnt fire up. I checked voltage across battery and that was near 12v. I checked the fuel pump and that wasnt working, so i though i found my problem.
Got a new fuel pump and tried to connect that with the live coming to the old one and earthing it to the chassis, but the new one wont work either. I connected it across the battery and it works fine. traced the earth going to the engine and to the chassis - which is on the bulk head, and it works there. But nearer the old pump it only works in some places. The older fuel pump has one wire going to it, so im assuming the body of the pump is the earth as it bolted on to the chassis. But when i connect the new one to the live of the battery and connect the earth anywhere on the chassis near the old fuel pump it wont work at all!!!
Do i need to earth the chassis by pulling a third cable off the battery - as the 2 wires earthing are going to the engine and bulk head.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Regards
Jas
