Selling Cars!!!!
« on: June 11, 2007, 09:46:44 »
I don't know how full time car sales men do it, they must have the patience of saints.  I have been trying to sell my Audi for the past week and a half and have been inundated with calls with people who want to come and look at it, I have just spent the second weekend in a row stopping in and waiting for the afore mentioned potential buyers to come only for nobody turning up at all, I even agreed times to meet :x

Why can't people just have the courtesy to call if they aren't going to make it, up to now I have only had one viewing, he couldn't find anything wrong with the car and even said it was exactly what he wanted but insulted me seriously on the price, he knew how much it was and my minimum I would take for it but still spent an hour test driving and tyre kicking before telling me it was too much......some people :x

Rant over

You need to get tougher with them tell them youv'e got someone coming in afternoon and they better be there by a certain time. Or that youv'e got a lot of interest. Check the book price and make sure your willing to drop.

You will need to meet somewhere in the middle of your price range if you wasnt 3k for instance you will need to ask more depends what the cars worth but you will need to move down onthe price. It's just the way the game works.

Don't covet them either give them space to look round the car while youv'e got the keys firmly in your own pocket and only be there for starting test driving etc.

Hope you sell it soon.
Cheers H1

Speak the the local Audi dealer about a buyback. Some VAG dealers will do it if the car isnt too old and is in good shape.

IF I had the money......
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

You could try playing hard-ball.  Pre-close them.  Say "OK, I'll show you the car, but I don't want to waste my time or yours, so I'll tell you what condition it's in and let's agree a price up front.  If it's as I say then is there any reason at all you are not going to go ahead with buying it?"

As a buyer I've done this with the last couple of cars, to save wasting my journey to view.  A decent professional salesman will always pre-qualify the buyers similarly.
