Right i have put this here and not in the for sale as i need answers and to discuss.

 I have a 1971 series 3 2.25 petrol i am thinking of selling it but the chassis need replaceing or a fair bit of weldind. The body is good it has rocky mountian paras on it 109 shackels so is lifted engine is good, new fuel tank, very good tyres deeston 750s, it has the standard seats and some recaro out of an astra, i have spare complete hubs,snorkel but not plumed in. some other bits and bobs.
 It has no mot and has been off the road for a year.

 So do i sell it as is or do i strip it. i know i would get more in bits but not sure if i can be bothered with all that.
 Can anyone tell me how much to sell for does anyone want to make me an offer. I have seen them for sale at all sorts of prices so im a bit lost with it, nice good truck pants chassis.
 Please help.

Series motors with no MOT really aren't worth very much.  

I paid 500 quid for a 1972 series 3 with 10 months MOT.

I've got a friend who picked up an unregistered 109" FFR not so long ago for £89.

Stripping is a lot of hastle and takes up quite a bit of space.  How early is it? what's the chassis number?

Not worth a lot in bits really.....  series bits are very very cheap and folk usually trade and swap I wouldn't bother.  Tax Exempt series 3's are rare it would be a waste.

I (think I) know what you're thinking Rich...

Dave, come back to us with parts of the chassis number first 3 digits, and last letter, for example, ours is 241, ending with H.

Yours being a K could actually be a Series 2a, which should  / will command a higher price than a Series 3, especially amongst enthusiasts. It does have Series 3 features, such as bulkhead, bonnet, door hinges, air intake in nearside wing, though mine has all those features yet is definitely a Series 2.

There was a 6 month cross over, so anything could have been put on a Series 2a, also anything could have happened since it left the factory. I notice it's had at least one re-paint, as when it was done, someone went over the galvanised body cappings...

I would definitely say rebuild it, it'll have much more historic value, either as one of the latest Series 2a, or one of the earliest Series 3s. If you're intent on selling it, get it through an MOT. The body work looks great, not a fan of chequer plate myself, though some are ;) Guestimating, I'd say with an MOT you could see £1500 for it. You just need to find a friendly welder!

Right chassis no 90600480A . so what does that make it a very rare one worth thousands  :wink:  :lol:  :lol: .

It would rather be the 480th to begin being built. :wink:  It would definitely not be the 480th to roll out of the factory as some vehicles were put to one side for special orders or awaiting for other parts to arrive to complete the spec.

Anyway, yes I advise refurbishing it into a relatively tidy and usable Series.

If I had the time money and space I would love to strip it and put it on a new chassis. A tax exempt series 3. Very rare.

I've got a Series III, 1973 (just). It's a 2.6 109. It missed the tax exempt by a couple of months, I think. Chews me up every time I tax it. It must surely be time they had another tax exempt date, wouldn't you say? PLY99L; if you see it around give us a wave.

Might be worth contacting Gaydon. It's not the date of registration that they go by, it's the build date. Land Rover had a habit of building the vehicles long before they were registered. If you get the build date you might find it is WITHIN the desginated date range...

Thrasher can i ask how you go about contacting gaydon? as iv got a s111 lightweight id like to check the build date and try to find any history i can about her. cheers!
 Oh and yeah id definately go with getting your chassis sorted(half replace maybe) or finding a second hand galvanised one! good luck!

Gaydon website

You can just ring up the arhcive and quote your model and chassis number, I'd try the genral phone number, they will just tell you the date it entered despatch for free if thats all you want; you might even get the despatch destination out of them too as thats about all the records actully say.  You'll need to pay for it to be written down in a way DVLA will recognise but if it comes to that their fees are very resionable if it'd save you £180pa.

Don't think you'll be in luck with a tax exempt s3 lightweight though as someone once told me it was 73 before they started building them.
