Adding a tach to my 200tdi?
« on: June 19, 2007, 21:16:24 »
Car is a 200tdi Discovery

I would like to have a rev counter in it as mine didnt come with one from the factory.  Is it as easy as buying a dash panel with a rev counter and bolting it in or will none of the wiring be there?

Any ideas much appreciated!

It didn't bother me to start with, but using it a bit more now as the D3 has been sold so is my only 4x4 now.
I had planned (and indeed bought a lot of bits) to convert the interior to 300 spec, but moved house so no space to do and the new job provides no spare time to do it!

Stu has a point, thinking back it looks like the dash in my old 1.4 metro van.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

I appreciate this helps not in the slightest, but does anyone else keep reading the "fuel" gauge as saying "food" ?

The tacho is sensed from the alternator so there shouldn't be too much problem with getting it working.
If it wasn't an Mpi then my guess is someone has swapped the unit out and it should be a straight swap back in.
There's loads of Maestro and Montego bits on early Discoverys.

well it has got a difflock light so must be from an mpi.

Good news on the tacho front then, the search begins for a dash to suit!

Thanks for all the help guys, much appreciated

You sold a D3 and kept a tdi? What an earth for? It is a puzzling mystery you have there.

Although the d3 was an awesome machine and I loved it to bits, it never got used off road after I got the tdi...  I didnt see much point in having a big 4x4 and not using it properly, so sold it...

Must say. I am well impressed. I thought you were going to say it did bad mpg or something. saying it wasnt used for the job it was built for is top marks to you sir. If only all the school mums out there with thier chelsea tractors did the same thing us 4x4 owners may not be picked on as much!

Hats off to you sir.

This dash is from a LDV van/pickup.
If it aint broke , brake it  so you can mend it.
