Sailing

Only one person said sailing?

I have just taken up sailing, and though it can be a little physical at times it has to be one of the most relaxing things i have ever done (apart from drinking)
Its not that expensive to get into either, with second hand sailing dinghys fetching less than a cheap winch ;)

Cheers

Tried wind surfing a few years ago that works you hard.
Building PC (Usually my own)
Playing with most electronic gadgets (Xbox 360, Projector, Hifi, Weather station Equipment and many others)
Walking (seems to be more of us doing that than the ramblers groups)
Most finish R/C Hovercraft (taken about 2 years so far)
Watching others drink beer (Don't like it myself but fun watch everyone esle)
keep on thinking about  getting the mountain bike out but then I relize that when I bought it Rock shocks were still figment of someone imagination and then I forget it.
Photography
Web Sites (my own)
But the Tomb-Rover is defenately the most expensive and time consuming.

We've got a load of Hornby train gear in the loft (via both sets of parents) but nowhere to set it up...

You can always find somewhere for it. My room currently sports a 24ft end to end Marklin layout around two walls at picture rail height!

These days all I seem to do is eat, sleep and work  :roll:

Been through plenty of hobbies in my time though.

As a child, I always enjoyed drawing. Had many pictures on the Blue Peter notice board! And I've still got the badges and signed photo's to prove it  :oops: :lol: Those were the days of John Noakes, Petra and Shep.... ah, memories!
Model aircraft (static, powered R/C and glider R/C), crashed too many to mention  :oops:
Model railways (sold it all when I got into cars).
Cycling (still get out occasionally)
Motor racing (still have my MG Midget race car, but not in use now)
Photography (but even that is done at work now since I started product photography  :roll:)
Oh, and designed and draughted a house once, right down to the quantity surveying, but never got to build it!

the land rover takes up most of my time/money at the moment as im trying to do some cool electrical stuff to it which will probly  not work  :lol:

i used to make model boats and sail them
then i moved onto a model rocket where it claimed you could put an egg in it and it wouldnt break, i never had any success,
then i tryed my hand at rc cars but they proved more unreliable than the landy  :lol:
now im looking at getting back into mountain biking, and taking up canoeing, i have a canoe but no paddle yet  :lol:

hopefully going to take up rock climbing next year at uni

for now exam revision  :'(

I sometimes ride my skateboard
:)

And 'body-double' for Zach Braff :-'

Ummm ..... well ..... I think I can count er ..... bar the obvious ....

Music :)
What about the old 'armour-plating'???

Used to be a Pro Mountain Biker until my knees went POP 15 years ago :cry: but trying to get back to it for sun only.
Oh!?
Who did you ride for?? (team/sponsor/factory??)

but my other hobbie that i am getting back into now is mountain biking which also involves getting muddy a lot of the time, music too   bit of walking :shock: , but this year i am wanting to have a go at snowboarding !! :lol:
I know about your MTBing Marc, as we've got a 'date' at Kippax in July :lol:
(unless you've forgotten)

As for me?
 I involve myself with........

Cycling;
Some of you may have read (or remember) my additions to the 'Fancy A New (push) Bike' thread started by 'Martha Focker'.
So you know that I've been back on them about a year (after a semi-enforced lay-off), and have been racing intermittantly (with mediocre results) since last September.

The racing is a branch of the sport called 'Cyclo-Cross' (for details ot what it's about, see; 'About' & 'Get Into')

I also ride on the road a lot, but ought to really do more :oops:

Running;
I only really started this as a 'back-up' to the cycling, as some Cyclo-Cross courses demand a bit of running.
I'm not really 'up there', but at present can manage a 'rolling' 5 &1/2 run in 40minutes, and have been told that that's a fairly good time at my training level/experience (unless they're humouring me???)

But..... I've entered a 5-miler that takes place in June, & want to be able to comfortably finish it in a decent-ish time (roughly between Darrington & Wentbridge)

Joanne (SWMBO) told me last November that she'd get back into training & run a race that I did at Bingley - it was 'Cyclists verses Harriers' - & beat me over the distance :-k :-k

Reading;
Rather varied tastes, no specific writer/genre, but a few are;
Bill Bryson
Stuart Maconie ('Pies & Prejudice'; great book :clap: )
HP Lovecraft (lost my copies during the last house move)
Michael Crichton ('AirFrame', 'Prey', 'TimeLine')

Biographies (examples; Johnny Cash, Lance Armstrong, 'David Copperfield')

Industrial Heritage books ('Great Stink of London', about the building of the sewerage system is superb)

Music;
Quite varied, but not much 'modern' stuff & definately no 'dance'/'drum & bass'!!!!!
Some favourites include; Steve Earle, Tindersticks, Bruce Springsteen, Dixie Chicks, Snow Patrol, Stray Cats, Alison Krauss, Coldplay, Leonard Cohen, Cocteau Twins, Catatonia, etc.........

Photography;
Mainly in support of my 'www', which now has almost 4,000 images on it!, and almost 340,000 hits :shock:

What I want to do;
I'd like to be able to play a few musical instruments properly
1. The Guitar, I want to be able to do justice to one of these :drool: :drool: :drool:

2. The Banjo. I used to have one, but never did it properly, it's due to a long liking for Bluegrass.

3. Double-Bass. But..... played as the 'slap-bass', again, a long liking for rockabilly does it!

Fighting, sort of a mix of Ju-Jitsu, Wing Chun, Escreda and just plain dirty tricks. Although the club has disbanded, so I need to find a new one.

Go bodyboarding and surfing (well twice but have my own board :doh: ) when I'm in cornwall.

Have had the intention of digging my MTB out since march, got as far as looking at it and going ermm! Getting a bit fat now so need to get of my butt and train more, so looks like running and MTB's will be back on the list.

Should add walking, but half the time I walk just because I'm to lazy (and tight) to use my car!

Well, as stated, I only started again last Easter,& I dropped 2 stone in roughly 10 weeks*!
I think I'm hovering about the 9'9" - 9'10" mark! (doesn't half help on the hills)

I even went for some new trousers in our Sewing/Linen Room at work, & was told "Sorry, we haven't got any with a 29" waist!!" (down from 32")

* Obviously, eating sensibly was the other cue.
No chocolate, fried food, sweets, etc....  (I'm tee-total & a non-smoker, so that part wasn't an issue for me)

I sometimes walk up a mountain or 2, explore old mines, gold panning in the local rivers, photography, and this year I have taken up fly fishing.

This year I have combined exploring old mines with photography

Must be large scale to handle those cargoes - here's what I bought before catching the off road bug:

and something I built from balsa, brass rod, plastic section and assorted odds and ends. The only commercial parts are the wheels and couplings:

Landrovers .. they have always been the love of my life but its only been about 4 years since ive been able to furfill my needs and now they take a major part of my life up, and through them ive entered the club and never looked back

Model Boats

Cycling;

I also ride on the road a lot, but ought to really do more :oops:

At the moment most of my rides are only up to the 3 hour mark, but that's to keep the wife happy
Ie: I'm not disappearing off all day, but I intend to do perhaps 4 (maybe 5 hours) on Saturday & Sunday on the road-bike.
This will either be;
1. Up to Otley & Bolton Abbey
2. Or down and over HolmMoss (A6024), then coming back over Woodhead Pass (A628)
3. Perhaps carrying the HolmMoss down over the Snake Pass (A57), with that fearsome climb out of Glossop 8-[ 8-[

Running;

I've been out earlier & done a 50minute run, the longest I've done so far, the time jumped up by 10minutes & just over another mile.
Perhaps that's not a lot, but it certainly felt a lot whilst I was doing it :-k

Got the scary pictures when i got in, but they're not really suitable for public viewing :shocked:

I'm into horses, well, its my main hobby. I have an ex racer who I've reschooled. Competed as back up crew (and navigator!) in endurance riding upto world level, went as groom with someone to the World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany, 2006. Strangely, thats partly what got me into off roading.

Still get the pushbike out occasionally and go for a ride, and am a frequent visitor to the gym!  8-[
