Got to go to chester and back this afternoon but got a problem with my disco 3.5 efi on lpg. When i run it on lpg and with the spray of water its killing the lpg flick it on to petrol and it runs fine. Checking the air filter and its wet so it must be the water getting into the air system killing the lpg. Now the air intake is a standerd one that sucks air in from behind the passenger side headlight. Now here is the thing have not got the stuff to make a snorkel so anyone know anywere in the engine bay that will be water free or any sort of screen i could make up to stop water entering the air intake. Thanks in advance

You could try adding on some trunking so its sucking air from very close to the exhaust manifold. That should be nice and dry.

Would you believe i had some spare trucking ......................................................................................................until a couple of months ago then gave it away as i thought i wont be needing it again. So have cut a plastic beaker so it heads towards the front corner with a cutout in the side so it should stop water going in to the air intake

Can you disconnect the intake from the inner wing so it just pulls in air from in front of the air box?

Havent got a pipe that runs from the inner wing it just stops with a little trumpet at the front of the air box. Have used a old plastic beaker for now and cut some of the side out so it sucks air in from the corner and is sheilded away from the fan and belts etc.

TBH I think you may have a prob with the vaporiser freezing, would be worth checking for an air lock in the cooling system.

Mine runs an open KnN filter, V8 + LPG.
Will fit a snorkel in time but have found when I go wading (up to wheel tops) or the engine gets to wet the lpg suffers a little, I just switch back to petrol for a while till the engine drys out, then its ok on LPG.
The KnN is set as high in the engine bay as poss though.

Andy

the front wheel arch hasnt rusted away and so water gets sprayed up into the bay when in the wet and then the air end thingy is sucking up the water from there making it just enough to effect the lpg?
just a thought?

Is the rubber dump valve (for the air box) that sits under the wing still in place?

Thanks for the info. The inner wings are good had to replate them last year for the mot. Rubber drain is fine water is coming in through the airintake trumpet, Have put a small mod in place which is a cut down plastic beacker with part of the side cut off with the opening facing 45 deg towards the inner wing and its running ok now.

Make sure the air intake and filter are not blocked somehow as I'm guessing you are saying the LPG doesn't work becasue it's a draw-through system and the airflow is messed up somehow. Otherwise I'd be checking that the ignition side is up to scratch, LPG is harder to ignite.
