Took the Disco for its MOT today. Despite thinking it was a guaranteed fail it sailed through without even an advisory

It helps when your MOT guy is into landies I suppose.

Unfortunately the truck deposited about half a litre of gearbox oil on his workshop floor as soon as I pulled up. Its leaking from the bell housing wade plug hole.
A chat with Landranger in Atherton leads me to belive that its the input shaft oil seal. He reckons £200 plus vat for the repair.

He also advised me to check the gearbox breather first as it may be blocked/trapped/melted etc and this commonly causes these types of problems.

Fingers crossed that its so simple but if not I think I'll have a crack at it myself. Its a ballache doing gearboxes on the drive but I'll bet the part is less than a tenner and funds are a little tight at the moment with a one week old baby in the house.

Has anyone had to tackle one of these? Got any tips or web resources to recommend? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Stu.

Good to see your bck on the road.

But like most things with a landie, if you thing everything is fine, it will come round and bit you in the a**e.  Last Wednesday my starter packed up.

Cheers seddy. I managed to get all the axle related jobs finished over the weekend. Successful test drive and all ready for the motty this morning.

You're right, just when you think you've fixed it, somthing else breaks!

This is the finished article, what do you think?

Lets hope that colour keeps all the idiots that seem to live around the Wigan and Leigh area from tail gating. They can say they didn't see you!!

The 2 inch lift looks good. Have you had to do anything else, like the prop?

Prop was a rubber rotoflex and looked very much the worse for wear when I removed it. Its now got a proper UJ a la 200Tdi.

Extended bumpstops, +4" braided brake hoses and deflex bushes is where I'm up to so far. Feel like a muppet now, spending cash on tarting it up rather than fixing the the things that keep you on the road :)

Know what you mean.

I keep looking at all the toys. But mine will need sills soon so I keep looking for rock/tree slider weld on replacement sill to do both jobs.

RDH had some in LRO the other month, he was ment to be sending me an e-mail/website to see how they are fitted.

It never arrived.
