Tweaked my Turbo and OMG!!!!!!
« on: June 27, 2007, 17:41:45 »
Had 5 minutes free so I've just been out to the 90, twisted my diaphragm (sp) by the requisite 90 degrees and shortened the wastegate actuator rod by 5mm and OMG what a difference, The turbo now happily whistles away and the acceleration through all the gears is phenomenal for a Landy (3rd and 4th are partucularly good) Despite my Tyres I even have loads of acceleration in 5th :) ,
She was running out of steam at 70 before and hills took their toll, it now just kept on accelerating to 80mph where I bottled it cos of the rain...the mud tyres and the raised suspension....
It now definately has a lot more go than handling ability....didnt adjust the smoke screw and still no smoke even under full acceleration...just need my bigger intercooler up front now n itll be sorted...

As happy as a Badger with two spoons.....

Cheers Steve

Here ya go... as stolen from another forum many moons ago....

as the gods who run this site have deleted the main information from the arcive in the new website  version I have re typed it ...at 2600 viewings it must be worth keeping!

First you need  16 psi boost on the inlet manifold. to get this you shorten the rod to the waste gate about 6mm its easy on a 200 but a pig on the 300. Loosen the lock nut first and dont loose the circlip! Manufacturers max is 20 psi so 16 is OK

Second remove the 4 screws from the power valve cover ( thats the squarish cover on top of the pump) and with the screws removed see how far the cover rises on the spring. Remove the cover and the diaphragm below...mark its positon if you like ..you lift the edges and pull upwards . Do not touch the accelerator whilst this part is out. Below the diaphragm you will see a knurled wheel .Rotate this down wards so that when the spring and diagphragm are re fitted you have about 2mm lift in the power valve cover plate as it sits on the spring ( on one I had to grind some off the bottom edge of the knurled ring ) Now examing the end of the rod fitted to the diaphragm...it has a cone shape on the bottom offset. re fit the diaphragm so that the deepest part of the cone is to the front of the pump. Re fit the top and off you go.  I have done dozens of these and had no problems..dont fiddle with other screws as all you will get is smoke . This causes a fantastic improvement in autos ..they leave the line when you hit the pedal not 5 seconds later.....mot emmissions are not affected and some say fuel econemy is improved......

You need to do both the turbo pressue and the pump or you wont have the air to burn the extra fuel and you will get smoke....post below gives photos ..

its easy peasy
dont fiddle with the smoke screw tho
its pointless unless your running a full width intercooler

a 200tdi wil happily run at 14 psi all day long without head gasket probs
im no running mine at 18psi and so far had no pobs....but i aint bothered about changing head gaskets
also ive got a big intercooler to fill
