The White House Pub,
Chain Road,
Holthead,
Huddersfield
HD7 5TY

Very friendly and comfy country pub on the tops above Slaithwaite.  Excellent food with a good choice, although not the cheapest place to eat.  Love the hand-pulled Tetleys!  Have to say I'm a bit biased, it's my local!   :D

Now one of the DeVere chain, it's a Grade 2 listed early (due to being rebuilt in the) 19th Century 'Country House'
website

We went there on Tuesday evening for the mother-in-laws 60th birthday, having only been in the place previously when researching a wedding reception venue 10 years ago.

Quite an impressive place upon walking in, liveried doorman, etc...
Inumerable ground floor rooms, but in parts very much a conferance venue, as there was lots of 'suits' walking around talking about 'tying up deals, photocopier profit margins'... etc....

The food was okay. thankfully not over reliant on being too fancy/'arty-farty'/with 'drizzles'/'jus'
The amounts definately did not reflect the prices!!

For 5 of us (4 adults, & a 6 year old), the bill with 2 bottles of wine was £206!!

Recently refurbished, & was last visited by us over 10 years ago.

Now it's a reasonably nice little pub. Quiet, unpretentious, with friendly staff.

We went on Friday evening for tea, at roughly 18:00 - 18:30, as it's not a million miles away*

The food thankfully isn't all that 'arty-farty' stuff with 'drizzles' & 'jus' - just good old-fashioned cooking

Joanne had a Sirloin Steak, which came to her exact liking

My proper(???) Steak & Kidney Suet Pudding was well-accepted by me, complete with decent vegetables that appeared freshly prepared - they'd not being boiling in a pan for ages!

As for the beers on offer :-k No idea, I'm tee-total & Joanne had wine

Although, I did notice that they have Theakstons 'Best Bitter' & 'Old Peculiar' on tap

We shall doubtless return

* The West Yorkshire Landy crowd on here may know its location better, if I said that Simon Services is, quite literally, just around the corner
