overdrive on LT95
« on: June 30, 2007, 00:41:42 »
As ive got a 4sp lt gear box ,was wondering how much difference a fairey overdrive would make to m.p.g.and engine noise.even 2% improve ment in m.p.g.would be good on a v8!
Is it possible to fit without taking the floor up?and is there a past posting /website on fitting one?
thanks

not sure about fitting one in a RRC as regards removing bits of floor etc but we have one fitted on our early 110.
it makes it a *bit* quieter on motorways when cruising, and probably helps the fuel economy a little bit. i guess it comes down to how many motorway miles you do.
if you buy one make sure you get all the bearings and shims and gears etc to fit it onto the mainshaft on the LT95 box...
drop me an email (addy in signature) if you have any more specific questions  :)

Prices of them seem to be going back up...we bought ours for about £40 a few years ago and that was about the going rate at the time.
The value of LT95 'boxes is also in the increase.

It's almost worth just fitting a 5 speed, but you have to swap the floor panel IIRC.

I have seen RRC with overdive and I think it fits without a floor mod, other than an operating handle :?

What are overdrives (in their physical form). Are they just a box that adds another gear, that bolts on between the T/box and the differential?

If it is just like another gear, roughly what is the ratio compared to, say a 4sp auto?

Thanks,
Sebastian
