90- 300tdi Steering box ....advice please
« on: July 05, 2007, 11:18:16 »
Have had a weep of fluid for some time coming from the steering box and have decided its about time I got off my fat Arse and did something about it.

So your advice is sought accordingly ....

Is it repairable or is it best to buy a new one .. ?

Where's the best place to get one from .. ?

All helpful advice is greatly appreciated ....    G

Where is it weeping from ? If its the seal at the bottom, it's a pig to get the arm off and very rarely does the replacement seal last long

But mine did that two years ago on the 110 and I came across this magic additive, poured it in and so far no leak at all, comes with a guarentee as well money back if it doesn't work.
Power steering stop leak really did work for me, try it

Thanks for the reply Chris ....

It seems to be weeping from the bottom where the arm joins the box ..

So this stop leak stuff ....... seems too good to be true ....

Should I give it a try then ?  Lucas oils are a big name  !

     It's about £8.00 a bottle I think but as I said no leaks at all so far, it's had a good bashing over the weekend green laning, Breasthigh Road is pretty rough and then yesterday over the Pennines and no leaks at all. I'm sold on the stuff and have just bought some other stuff for gearboxes and it has certainly improved the RR LT95 box and it's accompanying noises and leaks.

Lucas Oils are an American Company heavily into Drag Racing and trucks and their oils are absolutely second to none in my opinion anyone who can lubricate a full house supercharged 1000 bhp plus rail and make it stay together has to be good.
