Let me make this clear. If you can not control an animal you have absolutely no right keeping it as a pet. That hardstanding was laid three days ago and already it stinks of cat poop. Working on the car is already quite unpleasant enough thank you very much without having to crawl through your cats disgusting bodily wastes to do it.
It is MY garden, and your freaking pets should not be there in the first place, never mind using it as a chuffing toilet.

Now, I am off to learn to set a snare.

Cats are the only animals where you cannot sue the owners for trespass.

Get a Tiger, that'll keep 'em away.

..or actually - get a cat.

If you have a cat you can guarantee it will use someone elses garden as a toilet *BUT* will mark your own garden out of bounds :)

Works here :)

One other way - assuming you can see the cats - is to fill a water pistol with urine (I know I know) and spray the cat. This is the ultimate insult to the cat and it *should* stay away.

do you know who the cat's owner is since its their duty of care...

i find it odd doing one on your new concrete since cats are a bit private when it comes do "unloading" :)

but its probably marking it for himself, selfish sod

strange but true, put lemon juice over the area - cats won't go near it.

obviously you will then stink when you roll around in the stuff, but got to be better to smell all lemony fresh than to have to pee in a super soaker?

Well, I will try the chilli powder approach. With some lemon too by the sounds of it.

The patch of land where I park/fix is at the bottom of the garden behind the shed, so catching said beast(s) at it is near impossible. Therefore I have no idea who's cat it is anyhow.

I think the thing that gets me most is that this is perfectly acceptable behavior. The owners can't be bothered to clear up after their own pets, and they can't train them 'because they are cats'. And as the Ant Hill Mob says, it seems that cats' arn't even responsible for their own actions, and their owners certainly ain't.

I had a similar problem, why should i have to go around cleaning up after someone else's animal when it poo's all over my garden, i tried 1 of the electronic cat scarer's which worked but when its windy it runs the battery down quick, so in the end i got the ultimate deterrent.

I don't mind cleaning up after my own, and even the kids go checking for land mines

There is some stuff called "get off" which is a gel crystal which deters.

Between my house and my neibour is a piece of concrete that is my parking bay. the neibours dog consistently comes over and craps, usually right by the gate or where the car door opens

he does try and stop his dog doing it, and mostly clears it up as well, its just a pain

I got some of the get off stuff and its not been back since! if it does ever come back its getting lead poisoning

I have a cat and he is a vicious devil, no other cat will go near the house! Problem solved

My problem is dogs using my front garden as a toilet, there a few locals who just let their dogs roam wild.
If want to walk it walk it, if you want to ride it ride it just leave me alone to drive it!

i can appreciate it isnt pleasant and must be frustrating but unless a cat uses a litter tray 100% of the time how on earth would the owner know its using your garden?
as for not being able to control your animal well mate there are plenty of dog owners who have no idea.
cats are cats and have advantages as pets over dogs in certain ways...for one they arent stupid enough to run off. 2 ive never heard of a baby/child being mauled to death by a cat either. Dogs are however much more sociable on the whole.

get a cat problem solved....

Actually, get a cat.  A nice mean tom.  He won't crap in his own garden, and he won't let any other cats in there either.

I had this problem a few years ago tried everything, gel cystals, alarms, let the dog out, throw water on them, bits of black hoze (think they look like snakes), nothing worked

Then few days  after i flushed the the cooling system on the landy not easy as the stuff goes everywhere, the neighblours came round with the polds moaning about the cat been poisoned with eythene glygol, they even had a vet report and lab analysis, the cat having had to be put down.

Now i mentioned pure coindence, all splils were cleaned up after, cause i had not complained in the past the matter dropped.

However they did give another neighblour grief over the matter, they had complained the matter was dropped because of lack of evidence.

Still makes you wonder

What you need is Starfish, cut them up and lay them round your garden, in comes the cat, eats the starfish, then dies as they are highly poisonous to them, of course, I dont encourage the illegal killing/poisoning of cats!

I dont condone it either!!!

Dear Cat Owner (whoever you are)

Things seem to have got a little confused. You see, I guess it isn't really your cats that I hate. It is you.

You are the person who can't control their pets.

You are the person who can't be bothered to take responsibility for their actions.

You are the person who can't (or won't) train them properly.

You are the person who can't be bothered to clean up after them.

You are the person who considers all of the above acceptable, 'because it is a cat'.

This is the part of the garden where I park my car/work on it. It was paved over so that I could do exactly that. I don't just walk in this part of the garden. I kneel down. I lie down. I crawl about, in order to work out and get at whichever blasted bit of the car has broken this time. I do not see why I should have to do this through somebody else's pets discarded sewage. I also have a good deal of difficulty understanding why I should spend my time, money and effort dealing with the errant behavior of somebody else's pets.

Unfortunately, there is very little I can do about it. You see, I can't squirt your cat with water or rub it's nose in it because I am not there when it is going about it's business. Replacing your cat[edit] with lion[edit] or putting spikes in the ground isn't exactly an option either. Seeing as how that part of the garden has just been somewhat revamped, and is no longer waste ground (and never actually was, not that it stopped people dumping stuff there), I don't want to leave cola bottles or CDs laying around. People might get the wrong idea.

The chilli approach is also hardly ideal. 'I seem to have got something in my eye...hang on, I shall just wipe it with the back of my hand...Oh yes, I had to put chilli down to deal with the cats...it burns.' Like I said, I have to crawl around on the ground here. But i will try.

You wouldn't let a child walk off on it's own until you had taught them how to behave themselves, surely? Infact, you would probably take great exception if somebody else did. So why is it any different because it is your pet, rather than your kid? Is it simply because you can buy another one?

The short version of this is that because you can't look after your pets properly, they may die. Because if you arn't responsible for them, then I most defiantly am not.

OK, all this talk of killing people's pets is getting a little out of hand and we're starting to get complaints;  hence I'm locking the thread.
