You can drive a vehicle with an expired or failed MOT, to and from the test station or the garage where remedial work is to be carried out.But all journeys have to be direct, and all work has to be have been prebooked. You will still be required to have tax and insurance for the vehicle.
Haha i hope its as simple as just "pass mot" it should be okay then! we have insurance just no mot and tax! Do i have to notify the dvla of the new engine even though it's still a 2.5 diesel?Kind RegardsSam
Ring Garage. Get it booked in. Drive to MOT station, pass MOT. Drive home. Do not stop to get tax.Go get tax in other car or walk/tax online.Drive vehicle :)That's what I did :)The only thing I had to do slightly different was stop for fuel on the way as it only had 2 litres in it... and it's a 4.6!You will need insurance.

A vehicle that is SORN registered can not be driven/parked on public highway under any circumstances. To do so is a breech of the SORN rules. If the vehicle has no valid road fund leicense, then it has to be trailled to the test center, until a valid MOT and tax have been issued.
Your car, your choice.
Just had a thought whilst reading this thread:Most of the time, the small print on the insurance states that the vehicle must have a valid MOT, or the insurance will be invalid.Anyone familiar with the small print know if there is an exception for cover whilst going for your (pre-booked) MOT?
