advice on tyres

evening all.....i need some advice.... i bought some tyres about a year ago. a set of macho 265/75/16's x5

i have used them offroad but nothing too heavy....the normal. they have been used on tarmac aswell. i have always run them at 32psi as a running pressure.....no higher and no lower.

now they are just about half worn if not less. and these marks have come up......what do you think it is????


i need advice as i dont know what to do next  :?:  :?:  :?:

I have the same tyres... they came on the vehicle... and mine show a similar problem. That said... one pair (front) wore out and nothing untoward happened... but it does look to me like the remould part delaminating from the carcass.

Bought a pair of Insa Turbo Saharas to replace the done pair and they look like "Rovers Round Bits".

Hmmm, I was at the factory where they make them getting mine fitted and a guy came in with the same problem, they said it is the normal 'movement' that a retread has.  But it will be interesting to see what the MOT tester says, is that sidewall or tread??

Or just tell him its a picture of a mountain range!!!

I had the same issues with an Anaconda. The supplier exchanged the tyre. The rubber seemed to have been applied in layers and the actual tread rubber itself was delaminating, not just from the carcass.
Id say its dangerous, dont drive at speed on it.

im not using the truck at the moment bud.......not until i get this issue sorted  :(  :(  :(  :(

i had a similar effect on some machos but it was on the sides of the blocks and not on the join between tread and sidewall...

well the company are going to take them in for testing  :)  :)  :roll:  i have been offered a set of insa's at a good price which i wll put on until i hear back about these but thier initial assesment is its down to tyre pressures  :evil:  :evil:


i know i have never run them below or over 32psi...... i once had one of the tyres loose a little pressure.....30 psi....but only ran that 300 meters to garage.....


i will have to wait and see what is said i think

They do give cause for concern!

It does look like they are delaminating, don't let the supplier give you any bull about tyre pressure, he can't prove what you've been running them at. I had a similar problem with Broncos, Bronco insisted they were fine, kwikfit told me to bin them!

Looking at the list of remould names in this thread new tyres could well be the way forward. I changed mine to Pro-comps and the difference in handling and performance was unbelievable.

thanks for the advice and its taken on board  :wink: .i have taken pictures of the tyres so that once i send them off i have some sort of evidence....  :wink:

I have BFGoodrich muds which suffered a half tread loss in 500 meters due to a total wheel bearing failiure and hitting an object. The rim is bent and i top it up to 40psi, allow it to drop to about 10 and then top it up to 40psi. I have done this for about 100 miles (although it is due to be fixed).

My tyres have absolutly no problems whatsoever. Do not let them tell you anythning about pressures!

My Macho's did this too. Then the fronts started to disintegrate!!! Sidewalls lifted, exposing Michelin logo on one and Pirelli on the other. Total life threatening rubbish.

I vowed then never to touch remoulds again.

Life is worth more than saving a few quid when replacing tyres!!

its weird aint it, Ive run 2 sets of Colway MT's, and run em till they were worn out with no problems at all, My Anaconda split, and your tyres are split. Maybe they take more care when they remould Colways....?

Usually if you speak to people in the tyre trade (including the ones not trying to sell you tyres!) they speak highly of Colways.

Me personally i would nbever touch remoulds. People can argue till the cows come home, there is a reason they are cheap...

I bought some Machos from Mark last year , one developed a couple of lateral splits on the side wall, I called him and he asked for pictures, so sent tem to him and he forwared them to the makes and within 3 days I had a new tyre waiting in the garden for me  :D
Free.
The other I used as a an offroad spare.

I have since (this week) bought some Colway MT's from Mark as Im sure and confident that if there is a problem he will get it sorted.

And on the subject of remolds , the Father inlaw is an industrial tyre fitter and insists I dont waste mney on anything else  :?  he is 6 foot 6 so Im not arguing  :lol:  :lol:  :lol:  free fitting though  :wink:

I had a set of the Colway A/T's on the Discovery & did 30,000miles on them in all coditions.
I never had a single problem with any of them

had  a macho with a fault to .i had the tyres fitted at a local tyre company and the side wall lifted instantly on one of the tyres when fitting.sent it back to colway.with a letter from the tyre company who fitted them.
there answer was side impact damage  :!:
no refund/no new tyre :(

well i have some news ... the tyres have been collected today and are heading back to colway to be tested. i am just about to email them asking that they not be destroyed after they have tested them as i may need them back again

well i have a sneaky suspicion from what other people say that they will say they have been run at too low a preasure.... i know they have not so i would need to pay for an independent est which i am more than willing to do.... :wink:

so its a case of wait see now :D
