went out in the mud again come back with very little brake
stripped down[the brakes not me]cleaned out still peddel on floor &stand on the roof to put hand-brake on
is the fluid cooked? needs changing or what

if break lingings are good and adjusted correctly check break pipes for fractures, break cylinders for defects i.e leaks or siezed.

If all ok check master cylinder

do you mean its hard to pull on the handbrake or that the lever come up as far as it will go - handbrake isn't connected to the fluid - i'm asssuming you've had the drums off and all is well in there?

Just PM'ed you with a full run down on how to do your brakes. Shame your not nearer otherwise I would have done them for you. Don't bother forking out for genuine parts unless of course you're rich. - rear shoes are £55 + vat  :shock:

Yeeh our SJ had similar issues after wading through the water. I fully relined the rear brakes, cleane dup all of the handbrake linkages etc etc and we have been sort of fine since.

We did also find that the type of mud seemed to have an effect on how it behaved after. Sticky crappy stuff seemed to stay in the drum and not allow the rear foot or hand brake ot work very well after. It needed removing and cleaning before it worked properly again

I do think that the water in there doesnt do it any good and we did find some rust developing inside the rear drums too, quick clean and adjust and off it goes :)
