lots done today, taking shape again its all good 
cab almost done, looking alot better. started to extend the rollcage legs and ran out of wire in the welder....probably the worst timing ever!
have put filler on the top but it looks [!Expletive Deleted!] so i haven't put pics up......I'm rubbish at it  :lol:  :oops: not quite done but getting there really quickly
its been a good day :D

what thickness of steel should i use for the rear bumper???

went to boc today, got some welding wire and cracked on.
the hoop has been extended, took some time but its done.
made a start on the rear bumper, its only 2mm plate i wanted 3 or 4 but couldn't get hold of any so this will have to do for the moment
while cutting the scaffolding tube i noticed it had stamped along it tube stolen from blah blah blah call blah blah blah so ran that over with the flapdisk
just want to point out it isn't stolen.....i acquired it legitimately from the scaffold fairy who probably acquired it from a skip......where it comes from is none of my business but i think its rude that these people stamp there companies names on the tubing and spoil the look of our trucks! how dare they! [-X

1 more thing isn't it bloody annoying when you put all that hard work into something and some one puts a damper on it all scroll down to see what i mean.

















my dad came along earler to see how things are going. had the car up the mound of stones and he promptley said he wants a go.....[person of questionable parentage] got as high as me with his disco2 with just a 2"lift fitted! this did not make me a happy chappy! shows how much front flex has to pay! stones arnt that high but thats not the bloody point!

What bushes and springs are you running at the moment?

ahh well here in lies the problem they are the origional landrover bushes(i think) its mainley that, they are rock hard! but i cant get the arms off at the moment because its lifted and the springs are being pulled back as i havnt got the cranked arms on there(you auto cad drawing will explain that better). also pushing those old bushes out of there will be a nightmare, anyone got any advice in how to get them out? looking at pollybush voids but i can only find them on scrap iron racings site and im not giving them any of my money!
the springs are OME HD....definatley the wrong rates, especially on the rear. should do something about that but monies needs to be diverted to  more important things like rocksliders, snorkel and some hoses(found a big split in one the other day!)

Personal prefereance, but a single scaffold pipe just looks to skinny for my liking, maby if you used a larger diameter tube and rather than have it horivinatal, have the ends raised up. Kind of like the rear of Dans (aka extreme90) bobtail 90.

For removing old metalastic bushes, if there old enough the central tube(s) with most of the rubber should fall/push out without too much trouble. If the bushes are in too good a condition for the middles to just push out the other methods like chain drilling, drill then jig saw or just burning the rubber out should all work, leaving just the outer shell. Carefully cut through the outer shell in one place with a hacksaw as far as you can (without cutting the radius arm) to weaken it and then set to with a good hammer and a selection of punches to drive it out.

for getting the old bushes out i have a dirt cheep hole saw with the drill cut off, run it through each side on the pillar drill and the rubber is gone. then cut through the outer metal with a hack saw and job done. i do tend to make a mess of hot rubber going every were mine!

yes the bumper will have more "glued" to it....just couldnt be botherd to cut the tube and fishmouth the ends...
i should have made it like dans yes, if i ever get my arse in gear and get some propper springs for the rear the wheel WILL hit it!

i threatend to do it so i did! took that huge muffler off and replaced it with the little stinger and made a side exit! looks good apart from the welding.

tend to agree with you on the rear bumper... my choice would have been a large box sec, with a few holes for lights, thus protecting, and housing them.. aswell as something solid to fix recovery points/hi-lift jack holes etc..

cant wait for the next update!

Oh the issue of the rear bumper had you considered a rear cross member off a defender?

Only you can buy the cross member repair kits that weld onto the chassis. You get the whole rear cross member and a section of chassis legs. You can bolt a tow bar on one of those and I believe it must negate the need for a rear bumper as a Defender does not have a rear bumper and they go through an MOT!

Don't know if its possible or not but might be a solution?

Depends if one would be the right width I guess?

out of curiosity, any plans on mass production of the exhaust.... i`ve erm, "modified" mine using scaffold/resonator box as a tailpipe... it looks tres chav, but sounds awsome! (extra boost helps!)

Does you dad's DII have ACE though? if so it will be more flexible at low speed as the ARBs do nothing to stop it.

plus, are you paying retial prices for all those Silicone hoses you've used :shock: ther's about £200 worth there if flea-bay is owt to go by.

Truck looking great though, I like the cab roof particulalry, it's the one bit that either makes or brakes a good looking bobtail, I think you've cracked it :D

its gone off to overland today to get the rear window put in, they do an ok job so i should look good.
and no, i diddnt pay £200 for them! with next day delivery and some alli tube i think i just topped 100 quid(cheaper than a safari anyways!) also got the green air filter to go on top of it.
