Windows steaming up when I turn the heater on.
« on: July 27, 2007, 16:11:22 »
Hi,

The other day I was driving home in the rain without the heater on.  I decided I wanted some heat so I turned the heat and the fan on.  Almost instantly my windows steamed up, leaving me frantically wiping the inside on the windscreen so I could see where I was going!

This has happened to me once before, in similar circumstances, and I was wondering what might cause this - maybe water sitting by the heater waiting to be turned to steam when I turn the heat on, or if anyone here has had similar experiences and knows what to look for.

Cheers,

Dan.

Water pooled in/inhaled by the heater or steam leak in the matrix.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

I had this all the time, until i emptied all the clay and water from the bottom of the heater fan housing.  The drain plug in the heater intake was blocked.

There are only two possibilities.
As previously stated either the matrix is leaking or the drain-bulb needs to be squeezed & emptied, amazing how many people don't even know about it.

I had the same... removed the blocked drain plug from under the heater intake... never bothered to refit it...

cheers guys!

will give have a look tonight.  i take it you are all talking about the plastic intake underneath the passenger wing, with the grill on top? (i'm okay with older landies, but not so knowledgable with the newer stuff!)

Plastic grille on wing feeds heater air intake (passenger side). Look for big black box in engine bay exactly infront of passenger...it has a cable on top that adjusts it from within cab!!! Underneath you will feel a rubber nipple type thing (has a slit in it to allow water to escape), pull it free (you can refit it no prob). Water will run out of the black box....."job done-no more steamy windows". (that is a 300tdi, not so sure about td5 etc)
