Google problem
« on: July 29, 2007, 17:47:45 »
Anybody else had/got this problem, if so how do you fix it?

If i put a search into Google and the normal 10 items per page are listed, when i click on the item i want, instead of going to the page i want it goes to another search engine; not always the same one, then displays similar results.
The only way to get to the page i want is to copy/paste direct into the addressline.
This has now become VERY annoying, help please.

Have removed google and reinstalled and cleaned registry.

Download and run SpybotSD from http://www.safer-networking.org/ update it and let it run. once you've done that run windows update.

Its called a browser hijack and spybod should sort it. its your machine not google.

You've got something on there thats re-installed it.

Download ad-aware SE too and run them both, they seem to complement eachother. Also go into add-remove programs and take out anything you didnt install, be ruthless too, iuf you arent using it, bin it.

Often this can come bundled with software too, limewire and kazaa used to be the worst offenders but things like those blasted Zwinkies, smilie central etc all install junk too.

Yes i agree with evilgoat, especially check for installed IE tool bars. you could also try the free AGV antispyware, get it here http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5, i use this now and it picks up plenty after my lads have been browsing.

as evilgoat said, if you check in add and remove programs and you see something you don't recognise, remove it, worth doing periodically anyhow.

There is also Windows defender that is an anti spyware software, free from microsoft website.
In add/remove programs alter the sort so that it looks for recently modified programs, if its a recent install on your PC this'll be one of the first on your new sorted list

Windows defender isnt going to find anything those two havent found :(

In short, if you have Ad Aware and Spybot dont bother about defender. Updates are too slow and it misses tonnes of stuff.
