I used to ponder over all the people who used to say to me that the Police should go back to the 'Good Old Days' like it was in the 'Dixon of Dock Green' series. Which just goes to show what 'rose tinted views' people have really, because Dixon of Dock Green got shot!
As for the other 'Good Old Days' of the 70's, the period of 'clip round the ear from the local copper, and another from the old man when I got home', Life on Mars (apart from the time travel bit, obviously) and The Sweeney were a fairly accurate portrayal.

Remeber attending the loacl DMZ, getting out of the ambulance and while we were trying to work out where to go hearing 'thock!' from the side of the bus, turned round to see a nice round hole where an air rifle pellet had gone through the fibreglass. Got in, backed off and called the police.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Old guy died last week out Plymouth way (I think) because the chavs blocked the ambulance crew from getting through.

Been threatened had all the knives etc, BTM will tell you about the things that go on in a&e. Had a defib nicked, been threatened for the drugs bag, ambulance few weeks back lost its gps (common situation and funny as they are [!Expletive Deleted!] all use without the radios on many), I could go on. Water fairies (No offence) get the same too, fireworks fired at em isnt that uncommon for one.
