coffee dehydrates your body and as such is not a good thing.

regarding being unable to get used to the taste, i would probably guess youve tasted cr*p coffee!

MASSIVE difference between instant and filter, and between black and white (even though obvious the actual flavour of the coffee is different too)

also worth trying sweetex instead of sugar as i find sweetex sweeter than sugar.

i also prefer earl gray black too

I believe your body gets dependent on caffeine and hence when you reduce your intake as much as you did you do indeed suffer withdrawal symptoms.

Certainly when I gave up entirely I got a terrible stiff neck that was cured by half a cup of coffee after a aweek of pain. I now have two cups a day and I'm fine. I dare say I could give it up entirely.

I heard a radio program that said caffeine was one of the few drugs we take in that has absolutley no good points at all - just none at all.

If you want to give up coffee do it gradually and you should be OK. The radio program suggested that it was a good idea to give up caffeine but who knows? They say one thing one week and something else the next.

I like Turkish coffee and took some time to learn how to make it but I gave it up when I thought about how strong it is.

I did the same, got the same - wait until the muscle pain etc. You'll get over it - then avoid obvious caffiene, i.e. coke, diet coke, red bull, sprite, tea etc etc. Otherwise HEADACHES.

Been nearly a year now.

Saw the title, and thought that it was going to be referring to this.

Don't think that I could do without my coffee.

I was suprised how bad I felt and how quickly half a cup fixed me up.

See I said they change their mind each week so now caffeine is good for you.

As my dear old Mum says - everything in moderation, 87 and still kicking.

Neal I think I was just getting to the tail end of clearing it at Sodbury ... ;-)

It's worth it at the other end :) I feel much better most of the time. I'd been on coffee since I was about 8, and was taking about 10-12 mugs a day - then went cold turkey. Some people wean off - then cut, but you will still get withdrawal symptoms. Just remember - TEA also has a lot of caffeine. I simply gave up hot drinks - was easier :)

I ended at the hospital seeing a consultant.I had been getting stomach cramps and feeling generally unwell for ages.I had cameras in allsorts of horrible places. But this consultant said all results were negative and he needed to look at another angle. He asked did I drink a lot of coffee .I said no but I drink a lot of tea.He told me to try decaff tea,and avoid all caffiene. Within a couple of weeks I couldnt believe the difference.I now know I,ve a problem with milk as well .I,ve changed to decaff everything and skimmed milk and I feel great. But the lager still makes me fart.

You become dependant on caffine and thus you go through cold turkey.

Caffine can actually do good in moderation but large ammounts can cause Arrhythmias/Palpitations which have thier associated risks.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Drink strong tea in the morning and black coffee through the day at work. Have no problem sleeping, the larger and the whiskey see to that!

Cheers

i had to cut out coffee and red bull recently as i ended up in hospital on a machine that went beep! admittidly at that point i was doing 20-30 cups of coffee and about a third of a case of red bull a day. When i stopped i felt like id died untill i was put on ginseng. now i have ginseng tablets to provide a baseline and ginseng drinks for that extra 'boost'. better for you apparently but some interesting side effects  !

still cant resist a vodka red bull on a night out though!

these theories, reports, experiences and common opinions all boil down (get it - boil, kettle..... *get coat*) to two things:

a) all our bodies are slightly differant
b) an excess of anything is bad for you, all things in moderation!

PS i drink about 5 cups of T a day, full fat git milk, 1 suger. occasionally have coffee, black with one sug [YOU MIGHT WANT TO TAKE NOTE  INCASE I VISIT!]

...and as you can see, its my addiction to MC that keep me up all nigt!
