3.5 EFI Running Rich ?
« on: August 07, 2007, 09:33:33 »
Hi

My Disco has very black sooty deposits around the end of the exhaust pipe, A friend of mine commented that this is because the engine is running rich !.  Is this right, and if so how do you go about adjusting the mixture on the 3.5 v8 EFI engine.

Any ideas or comments appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

Never mind the exhaust, the brownish grey deposits we used to look ofr were caused by the lead in fuel.  Look at the plugs, if they are sooty then you need to worry, if they are brown then all is well.

IIRDC you can adjust the mixture by adjusting the VAF sensor (the flapper) somehow on early EFi and similarly on the MAF sensor of the hot-wire.  If it's running cats then leave well alone.

Hi

The spark plugs look a nice light brown colour, so looks like the mix is ok
