Bed in a 90?
« on: August 07, 2007, 16:51:12 »
Hey all,
As im sticking with my van sides and the kayak trips are starting to become overnight jobbies i thought rather than take a tent as it is always raining! Has anyone ever made a bed that folds out of the van side then extends up over the centre bulkhead? any ideas anyone?
Kind Regards
Sam

My old AQ had a table that he`d sawn in half which when the door was open would rest just inside the door. It was ideal untill it started peeing it down then he either had wet legs or a wet head deepending on which way round he slept!

If I get the camera out tomorrow, I'll get a photo of my fold down bed in my 90 & post it here.
It folds down from the side & then the foot end folds out over the passenger seat after folding this forwards. The bed sits on the centre bulkhead & a leg at the back.
I've used it many times including a weeks trip across France & around the Alps and for 2 weeks during our Lands End/John O Groats trip.

Right, photos as follows:
Bed when folded up against side. The wooden box underneath holds my recovery gear.

With main part folded down & leg to hold rear.

With passenger seat folded forward & foot section folded out. This simply rests on the seat back. The foot section needs to be narrower than the main section to allow it to fold forward.

With mattress in place & curtains up. For the mattress, I cut down an old caravan cushion.

The bed is hinged at the side from a batten of wood attached to the inside of the body capping.

Hope this helps :)

There's nothing more satisfying than sitting in your motor having breakfast whilst watching those poor souls in tents trying to pack their tents away in the pouring rain, knowing that all you have to do is fold your bunk away & drive off

thats my plan get it all insulated then build a bed! and a foldaway shelf off the door so i can pretty much cook in bed! I can also get changed in there like a little motorhome for me! and my little window so i can watch everyone struggle! better makes sure im on level ground otherwise it'll be slidey!
