oil on inside of tyre
« on: August 07, 2007, 20:03:41 »
got a leak, thick black oil runing down the inside of a tyre. break disk covered in it and getting a puddle on the floor when left..

ive checked the axle oil level and seems to be full, also checked the break fluid also full. im thinking its an oil seal on the bearings and its greese leaking when getting hot and not oil..

the hub dosent seem to get hot when driving, and its been slowly leaking for about a week..
what do you think

cheers

i had a similar thing but it didnt get as far as the tyre, most of it went on the inner brake pad causing a steering pull. that was the inner brg seal, ..alan.....

i also had the same thing .  seals were brand new it turned out to be the stub axel. inside there is a very small seal not sure if you can buy the seal i just bought the whole stub axel not cheep so look if you can buy the seal and that will solve the problem
i only go in as far as my nuts

check your axle breather... mine got blocked and caused the rear hub seals to leak... but then I ran without the stubb axle seals in place so as to partially flood the bearings with axle oil..

worth pulling the hub off and checking the brake cylinder first tho!
